I bought this case:

http://www.all-pelican-cases-4-less....ican_1500.html

It will hold 10 chip trays with lids. There's still plenty of room for cards, plaques, etc. Plus if you ever go on a canoe trip and you want to take your Pharaohs along, you can float them behind the canoe!

That's rediculously cheap - those things normally run $150+ and lowest price I've seen is $70 without the chip holders. The guy has good ebay ratings but let us know how this looks when you get it. I might have to pick one up (or 2....or.....)

Edit: okay - now that I've actually looked some more I found one for $55 + $12 S/H. Yours is still a lot cheaper though!

This is probably mindless and silly ... but to the other extreme (and to add a little levity ), one of the cardboard boxes that hold 4 boxes of Ziploc® sandwich bags, like you'd find at Costco, will easily hold 10 racks of chips and a top rack inverted or cover over the top rack (with plenty of room for cards and plaques if desired). Just to add to the motif, the wrapping paper from a Trademark shipping carton will provide adequate padding to prevent the chip racks from moving around.

Actually I just found this a convenient way of putting a thousand chips aside for temporary storage, and thought I'd share it. Do handle the box from the bottom though and use both hands .

Wow! Now that is, um, organized...

Thanks for all the recommendations. I kind of like the rolling wheelie 1000 case, but I just can't see hauling that out of the house. Its almost ... too much.

Probably going to go with the 500 x2 option that will hold the plaques, and take advantage of a sale,.
If you go with that 500 chip wooden case from 5star, check out their specials/clearance section. You can usually find some there that are 'b stock' for even less. I picked up 2 of those same cases but in the 300 chip size for like 20 bucks each. Can't beat that.

You know, if you used the oak chest, you could take a shoulder strap from one of those cheap nylon duffel bags and clip in on the handles and carry it easier that way. I may test this out with mine later.

For 1000 chips, I'll split it into two 500 aluminum cases.
