There have been a couple recent posts where people are having problems fitting 20 chips snugly in their chip racks. I've got the same problem with a new set of chips, and decided to throw a set of calipers on my racks to see what was up.
Turns out I've got 2 distinctly different widths of racks - 2 11/16" and 2 3/4". The dice chips I've got fit ok in the thinner racks and great in the wider. The Las Vegas Premier chips came in the wider racks and it is impossible to get 20 into the thinner racks.
Based on PMs with another member, 20 Paulson chips should fit great in a 2 11/16" rack but there will be room for an extra chip in a 2 3/4" rack.
It would be cool if some people could measure the inside width of their racks and post the size and where they go them from for people who have chips that don't fit both sizes. I'd like to see vendors state these numbers on their web sites as well, but I don't imagine there is much chance of that happening.
I just got my custom Chipcos and they include Chipco racks. They definitely fit exactly 20 Chipco chips - so snug in fact that you have to square them up to get that last chip in there.
So now I am educated on chip racks. I never knew this was such a big issue until I saw it for myself.
FWIW I traded a stack of Spinettis racks for Kodiak's 5star racks, and the 5stars are defanitly wider and fit my chips correctly. The Spinettis 2 11/16 racks appearently work great for Kodiak's PJBs.
Hope that helps people in the market for chip racks.
