Case Is not Safe?

Hi everyone, I am new to Chiptalk, I have browsed Chiptalk for a while and I have finally purchased a 500 chip + case of Pharaoh’s china clay for myself through Apachepokerchips. Here are the pictures. The chips are really nice. However, I have a few concerns on the case:

1) It says it would fit 500 chips but I can only fit 492 chips to the case. It’s not a big deal though. I will just bring 8 less chips to my friend’s place.

2) I feel like the case would open when I shake the case just a little bit while carrying the case to my friend's place. The locks look a little awkward. I have included couple pictures here.

Is the case suppose to work like this or I should buy a more safer case? I don't host home games and I usually bring the chips to my friend's place to play. What do you guys think? Should I buy a better case? What case should I buy? Any helps or suggestions are deeply appreciated.

PS: No chips were damaged when the package arrived to my house. Good job!

I would buy a new case. These alum. cases are for the most part all pretty junky. They serve the purpose but I would rather be safe than sorry. I can't believe they would hook you up with a case that doesn't fit the number of chips they sold you!

Re the pictures: have you tried actually closing the latches all the way?

How often and how far do you carry the chips? If not often or far, just carry the case with your hand under the center of it, like carrying a binder or a stack of magazines, and don't use the handle.

Re: Case Is not Safe?

I used to use an aluminum case that was well built with good hinges but the latches opened too easily. Locking the case ensured that the latches would stay closed.

Re: Case Is not Safe?

So I carry the case from my room to my car, drive to my friend's place and play. I guess I can live carrying the case like a binder. Any other suggestions?

Re: Case Is not Safe?

The case is so poorly built that it looks even worse than those dice chips set case. LOL!! It's ridiculous

Re: Case Is not Safe?

It probably doesn't fit the normal amount since Pharaoh's chips are thicker than normal, so that would explain hat much, although whoever sold this to you should have realized the inconsistency and clarified beforehand.

I have an aluminum case which for years seemed great and sturdy, just recently one of the tiny bolts/rivets that hold it in became dislodged. The handle still works but it seems able to give out at any moment, so I carry it by the bottom. I tried to remove the handle altogether to prevent someone else not knowingly carrying by it and then breaking, but the handle even in its half damged state, is still on there pretty good and brute force won't remove it at this point.

Point of the story, if it works for you then it works. If your uneasy about it, get a new case.

Re: Case Is not Safe?

Hi and welcome aboard! Can I make a suggestion? Buy 100 more chips and then pick up one of these. That's what I did for my Pharaohs. Not only are they safe but I get to "see" them when they're not in use. They're really beautiful chips so why not show them off?

Re: Case Is not Safe?

(ironic mode on) These cases are built to hold 14g real casino clay chips. As you are 40% below you should have enough safety margin. (ironic mode off)
If you can't close the latches more than that try if you can close it properly with less chips in...

Re: Case Is not Safe?

Most of the chinese-made aluminum cases sold these days are junk, compared to the sturdier aluminum cases of old.

Get a Claysmith aluminum case -- room for 500 chips in racks, two dealer buttons, and two decks of poker-size cards (or Pharaoh's plaques, if you prefer). Awesome construction, solid rubber handle, extremely sturdy locking latches.
