This has been discussed on the other forums, but never here:

I am getting 1000 custom chipcos and may well get 500 Paulsons as well. What should I put them in?
What is the best case for at home/on display?
What is the best case to carry around?

I have some inexpensive chips in an aluminum case that is very functional, but the mahogany chip cases on holdempokerchips.com look sweet. The casino style acrylic cases are nice and hold 1000 chips, but I wonder how securely the chips are stored. Would it tip over in the trunk of a car?

Here's waht I recommend:

For home, get two of the 750 mahogony cases. They'll hold your 1500 and a few spares (about 30 spares each).

For travel, get the rolling alum case, holds 2000. See it here: http://pokerchipsdepot.com/ Click on "2000" in the cases menu. I bought the thinner one, and I really like it. Leaves you a bit of room to grow, or carry cards and such.

I have no experience with the mahogany case Ten referred to, but I just received one of the humidor-style high-gloss chip cases, and am quite impressed with the quality. They are not cheap (got mine off Ebay for ~$70, shipped) but, surprisingly, look as good in person as they do in the pictures.

They are solid wood (lacquer?), as far as I can tell, although I do not know if the outer surface is a veneer. Even if it is a veneer (I suspect it is only because the wood on mine looks like bird's eye maple, which commands a hefty price), it is very, very well done. The bottom is felt-lined as is the chip tray inside. The only complaint I have is the latches are not polished (easy enough to touch-up, though) and mine were a bit off alignment (nothing that could not be fixed). The hinges and handles are well-done.

My case holds 500+ in two stacks, and the construction is sturdy enough to support my 500-chip set of NJ Desert Sands. I believe they come in 100-650-count styles.

Google for "glossy poker case" and I am sure you will come up with some vendors.

i like the look of the birdcages.... i dont have one... but have racks that i keep my chips in... i wonder how the birdcages are because they can hold a lot of chips and arent expensive

I concur with Ten. The mahogany case is outstanding. Your chips will thank you for it.

You can buy it for about the same price as a bird cage. You can get one here for under $100 including shipping. (No, its not my auction).

The birdcages are great because the hold the racks. As long as it's full with 1000 chips you don't really have to worry about it tipping over, just treat it like you would a cooler in the trunk and it'll ride great.

I did a review on this site of the pokerchipsdepot aluminum rolling case w/ double doors (one of their cases that holds 2000 chips). I don't recommend it for traveling. If you get a 2000 chip aluminum case, I'd suggest the one Ten bought (if it is still available). Get the "briefcase" style, as opposed to the double door model. For 1000 chips, though, their double-door model might be OK, since it wouldn't have the same structural weakness as the 2000 chip case. If you buy one of those, do a review, will ya?

I have two large wooden cases that I like very much. The largest one is from http://www.brandsonsale.com/tg-001802.html They also sell on ebay. Cost is about $200. Here's a pic:

I love this case. Each drawer holds 400 chips (in 4 removable wood trays). There's plenty of space in the top for cards, markers, plaques, etc.

The second wood case I have is from http://www.pokerchips.com/cases98/w_cases_1.html

I bought the walnut case that holds 1000 chips. Absolutely top quality, and a price to match ($425).

As for traveling: Man I lugged 2 500 chip cases around in a duffle bag and let me tell you that sh*t is heavy. A friend of mine has the 1000 aluminum stlye case and carts it around on one of those folding bungie carts. I suppose its the same concept as the 1000 case that captlego is talking about. I dont like aluminum cases because they dont exactly fit 500 chips. for me its more like 520, 52 in each row. Thats a big concern for me especially if you put only 500 in a case. I'm always wondering if I'm missing a chip or 2. I suppose I could spend an extra 5-10 min counting the chips but at 2am I'm too lazy. I like the acrilyc racks because its easier to count the chips but havent found a case i like to transport those around in yet.

I'd definitely like to see some more case reviews on the site. Up until now, I haven't really paid too much attention to them, and there are such a variety of inexpensive cases with differing quality. (ie. are the aluminum cases at pokerchipdepot.com on par with the ones at holdempokerchips.com - my guess is not?)

Those mahogany cases look awesome, but if I got one of those, i'd definitely also need to get a travel case.

I'm a bit confused, do you have a 2000 chip rolling case that's different from the one CaptLego reviewed, or is it not a rolling case? I don't recall seeing pics of it anywhere.
