hey just wondering if anyone has used or has this kind of case? its an Oak 500 chip case with 5 removable trays (assuming 4 rows of 25) with an acrylic oak rimmed lid. Looks really nice and i'd like to have a 2nd nice case for my paulsons. I have currently 500 in a aluminum case and 500 in a mohagany case, i figure if i had a case with a handle that could be carried with 1 hand
I could use the aluminum for half the set and the oak case to go places or keep them all in the nice wooden cases at home lol.
Or should I not bother at all and put them in my 1000 chip acrylic carrier that my nexgens are in (b/c the chip trays fit the nexgens better). Or should I just keep the Paulsons at home for my own games and take my Nexgens out to friends games that need chips?
I received that exact case as a gift several years ago, and I've been happy with it. I use mine mostly for display so it hasn't had much travel use.
The trays have 4 rows that hold 26 chips each, so it actually holds a few more than 500. The removable oak trays have space underneath for cards, buttons, etc. This space will fit a cardboard 2-pack of cards with top, but will not fit a Kem/Copag plastic 2-case with the top on (but will fit the plastic case without the top).
The handle and hinges are sturdy. My only concern for heavy travel use would be the clasps on the front. One of my clasps is somewhat loose in closing, but the other one is tight. The clasps don't have a lock so I suppose one could open, though I haven't had that problem.
I wouldn't have any hesitation to use this for a travel case.
thanks mate pretty thorough review. I'll have to go check these cases out next time i'm in the area there. The mohogany case I have is nice but a total pain to move with its 2 handles.
I have solid cover version of this.
The 1st time loaded it the handle popped off.
The tiny brass screws forced into the oak get fractured and easily break.
But you can redrill the holes 1 size larger than recommended (get the replacement screws if needed from any brass hinge kit found in hardware stores).
Then they go in good without forcing and hold.
I also put a travel lock hasp on my 200pc version so as not to worry about sudden opening...

I looked again at the handle and I could see this happening over time. If I were to travel with my case, I would definitely take out the screws in the handle and replce them with small bolts.
