Around a year or two ago ( have no concept of time) I only found one site with them and after getting the 300 I decided to get the 500 case also.
It was on back order and I kept nudging the site to get me one.
They did, but the top cover is way too deep and the chips all come out of the trays unless you put padding in it.
The 300 did not have that problem.
Also, the 300 pc case had nice contrast in the dovetails on the corners. The 500 had a more seamless look. But the one in your picture looks better.
The handles are sturdy and are bolted thru (not screwed on like many of the oak cases). However, the handle is kinda faux (it does not have a back, its like a half handle--flat with a hollow on the other side). That mades it a little cheesey.
Shortly after I received the 500pc case that site disappeared.
I didnt know you could get them elsewhere, I thought they were pretty unique cases.
I'm glad they are 'back'. Despite the overly deep lid on the 500 case.
Maybe thats been fixed?
EDIT
PS it also has a false bottom for cards etc.
EDIT II
PS again,
Mine do not have engraving, as in that ebay version.
The top view looks like the handle is whole, I'll look at mine and see if it looks like that from above.
I'll post pics of the 'other side' on mine later.

IMO this is only a small negative. I was really pleased to hear that the handle is bolted through rather than just screwed into the wood.

I agree, it is a good case, but the other thing about the chips rolling out of the trays becasue the inside lid is deep and not snug is more annoying.
You have to keep a chunk of foam inside the lid (or glue it in and cover it with felt for a better look).
Also, the back hinges are good, and stop at just over 90 degrees (does not flop open all the way).

Chips: 474 | | | Re: Wooden case with removeable wooden trays I have one very close to that. My only concern is that I feel the case is going to "pop" open if I'm walking around with it.
Oh...for the record, I don't walk around my house with my chips in a case....not that there is anything " wrong" with walking around the house with all your chips in a case....in the middle of the night.......in your pajama's........and your favorite slippers..........maybe a poker hat.....oh yeah,suglasses.......and maybe a little icecream cone....... if the wife picks them up grocery shopping! Nope, that's not me........... YAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH.. ...what is happening to me?

Possibly by sticking some thin oak (or some other material) runners to the pre-existing supports? This would also make the underneath cavity slightly deeper. |

I'll take a look.
I've not done anything yet and have only usedthe 300pc case (which doesnt need fillers) for travel so far.
I think the trays that come with this case have grips that are deeper than the chips (unlikethe standard oak case trays). So that may interfer with raising the trays up.
I know they are not the same length and are not interchangable with those.
Wiull double check the grip later.

Chips: 1,487 | | | Re: Wooden case with removeable wooden trays You need to build it up 1/2 inch or 9/16 to be snug.
The tray handles are not overly large and are about chip height, you can stack them when there are chips in them no problem.
