I just received my 750 chip mahogany case. I really like the look of it and I think it will make a great home for my PNYs. I have one question that I need answered though before I load it up.
When I opened the case there was a very strong laquer smell, and when I run my finger down the chip rows they feel a bit oily. If I put my chips in as is, will the laquer soak into the chips and discolor them? Should I clean the chip rows first? If so, what's the best way? Wipe the rows down with alcohol?
I would really appreciate some help on this, as I paid way to much for my PNYs to risk damaging them.
sounds like u have a fairly freshly stained case or its been treated with something to prevent it from drying out. I wouldn't reccomend any alcohol but a sponge with just some water and u could then use some pledge on the outside of the case to shine it up. No pledge on the inside or your chips may become slippery. If the water doesn't cut it, mix in some diluted dish soap wipe it down and then use just water to wipe it down and then towel. All really depends if its an oil type seal, wax, or residue from the stain. enjoy your case. If i ever pick up a high quality clay set i'll get one of those myself. I bought some furniture a few months back that had some funky residue on the legs when i got them to my house, used the soap n water technique and it came right off.
