New Birdcage on the Block?

Has anyone seen these in person? Just wondering if the base and handle are of one-piece construction instead of the normal two-piece fastened w/ screws.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...9186&rd=1&rd=1

CDS also has a 1000-ct version for sale. Couldn't find either on their main website.

Re: New Birdcage on the Block?

Ive got the 1000 count cases for less then that before. I don't know why these things cost so much.

The 800count seems like it would be pretty cool. enough for 600chips and a few packs of cards.

Re: New Birdcage on the Block?

It might be worth it to me if it's of one-piece construction. Everytime I carry mine, I get this mental picture of the two screws stripping out and all my chips going everywhere.

1k cage I bought had very loose screws. I Just unscrewed them, and used some plastic epoxy in the screw holes, and on the inside around the pastic. I believe It will hold well over 100pounds once it fully drys.

Re: New Birdcage on the Block?

I hav eseen the 1k holders cheaper before too. I often wondered about the screws in the bottom of my cases but have never had any issues.

I have the chea[po plastic kind from China (no doubt) with the 2 screws in the bottom. I had the same concerns for the first year or so I was using mine. With 1000 chips it is heavy as, and one of the screws is missing (must be some good quality epoxy holding it together as well). I was sure it was going to break, probably at the worst possible time like when I was criossing a busy street.

Despite that it has never failed, not even after being knocked around in the car (all the chips fell out, but only because it tipped over when it hit the floor).

I now don't think about it, and just trust it will not happen.

Well, it is reassuring to know that they use glue in addition to screws. I've never had any problems with any of mine, either, so maybe I'm just paranoid. One of the reasons I standardized on the 600-ct carriers was to reduce the weight (put on the screws).

Re: New Birdcage on the Block?

Exactly, I wouldn't go anymore than 600 with the China made ones. Even though people aren't having issues with them, the contruction doesn't look solid IMO.

Re: New Birdcage on the Block?

My wife works as a secretary at a machine shop so I asked her to take the base and handle and have them make one out of aluminum. Will post a pic as soon as it gets done.
