My brother (Shanghai Sparky) is experimenting with making some chip trays...here are the first mockups...and of course with some very nice chips.

I like the idea of wood racks for nice chips, they are soft on them vs. the hard plastic ones.

Yes, the pine are the practice blocks. Now, if we had Peterod's 60 inch radius router, we'd be golden!

How deep can he make those racks with that drill press?

I had just decided to use my acryllic racks for my chip cabinet and then you post this and get me second guessing again...

Since this will be the inside of a chip drawer, pine would be okay for me... Maybe he would do a sample tray in pine before cutting into oak... I'd buy the pine sample...

Actually, I need three trays... Holding 1200 chips each? (15 rows x 80 chips per row?)

The proximity of that drill press to your palmas chips is akin to sticking someone's child next to that power tool.

After I get better with the cheap pine, I will move up to walnut or other hard woods. I will make racks out of any wood, but finding pieces that are 1.25" thick gets pricey. Rockler sells mahogany for about $0.75 per linear inch.

As far as having a nice chip near the power tools, just remember that one has to be smarter than the equipment they are working with.
