I can put 1/8" of a slope on the overall length if needed.
Otherwise, I can glue a shim under the front edge. Quote: |

Let me say this to you....you don't have to sand minor imperfections... and you certainly don't have to clear coat them... They are going to be used inside drawers... I need them to hold the chips and that's it.
I appreciate the attention to details, I just don't want to overburden you with making a beautiful product that is going to be rarely seen. Naked wood is fine with me (unless you know something I don't, being a woodworker and all -- one does not have a drill press like that without being a woodworker...).
One question: These are going to sit at an slight angle in the drawer, front end higher (one, so gravity will hold them tight and 2 so I can see the faces when I open the drawer). I had thought of just tacking a flat piece of wood to the back (lower) end to make sure the chips stand upright, and a slim piece of wood underneath the front end to set the angle. Does that sound like it'll work, or do you have any other suggestions? |

I wanted enough so that gravity would hold the chips towards the back of the drawer (instead of them falling forward int he racks)...but honestly, I haven't figured out the right angle... I was just going to eyeball it to figure out what works best...
I was thinkig of putting a short "block" under the front of the racks... that way, if I pull the racks out of the drawer, they can sit flat on the table, but put them back in the drawer and the angle is re-created...

Now, I've been wondering this for quite some time, but what would one use dice for in a poker set????
Or this one... http://www.handcraftedboxes.com/cardboxes.htm

My problem is that I don't have the computer controlled equipment to mass produce with the tight tolerances that Wal-Mart has access to.
Not to mention the time needed to get really good. Besides, how much are people willing to pay? I don't feel like working for $5 per hour.

Chips: 329 | | | Re: Custom Wood Chip Racks.... This one looks easy to make since the chip rows are not routed out.
Instead of a section for cards, I could put in a section for cigars. Quote: |

Chips: 3,968 | | | Re: Custom Wood Chip Racks.... Well, Shanghai kicked out some custom made wood chip racks for me... these are going to be used to line the inside of the drawers in my chip cabinet... I'll keep them loose so that I can remove them with the chips.
He started with pine for the first two racks, then switched to ash. The ash racks look better (grain and color) and they are heavier. Apparently cheaper too. Each rack has three rows, and each row holds about 105 chips (which is perfect for 100 chips plus a plastic spacer between colors.
As an afterthought, I decided that I needed a stopper at the back end... Shanghai added the little piece of wood (lauan?) to one end and it works perfectly.
In the photos, one end is propped up on empty acrylic racks... For the drawer, I'll tack in a wood spacer so the racks are angled (like a dealer tray) and you can see the inlay. I'm planning on five racks per drawer (1500 chips) and three drawers...the cabinet will hold 4500 chips total.
I just put in an order for ten more... I'll get the chip cabinet started, probably after exams in December.

I think the ones made from ash look better too. Quote: |

I'll be seeing sparky next week so we can play some golf on his ripe old age birthday day of 40 next Saturday. Poor boy is catching up to his older brother faster than he realizes. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
