I like the fact that an entire drawer could be removed... I'd probably want to put some sort of stop on it to make sure the drawer didnt come out unless you wanted it to...
Me thinks the first try would be to miter the corners as shown in the prior diagram and then take the square frame and route a channel in the base (drawer / slide piece) and glue / screw it together. (countersink screws on other side)

That would be my first prototype, and I'd tweak and play fom there if further mods were needed. My second guess would be that I'd upgrade the base piece from 3/8" to 1/2" material.

Re: Custom Wood Chip Racks....

While having my morning coffee, I was watching Norm Abram's New Yankee Workshop on PBS.
I checked out his website to look for a plan/dvd of his latest project. I found one for a poker table.
Here is a link to what he made:

And the link to a video clip:

Worked fine on my computer.
Maybe yours is still screwed up from the Norton problem.

Re: Custom Wood Chip Racks....

Some of my new baby trays are almost done.
They still need to be sanded and cleaned up.
I used mahogany (left) and red oak (right) for the side trim.
The chip base is red oak routed out to a depth of 1/2" from a starting block of 3/4".
I had some scraps of the mahogany so I used it.
They are racks for 40 chips; perfect for handing starting stacks out to players at Legends tourney in Boston next week.

As soon as these are done, I can finish the ones for Wedge's table drawers.

Very slick... Can I just have you build the whole cabinet for me?

Re: Custom Wood Chip Racks....

I lost track of this thread, but I'm really impressed with the direction these boxes have taken. I think the stackability is a great feature, and they're very handsome. A lot of the chip tubes out there don't quite accomodate starting stacks. These meet the needs of those stacks. Great work.
