Pelican 1520 Case for 1500 Chipco chips

I spent the majority of the day researching and reading through some very informative reviews on cases for storage and transporting chips. I have to agree with what was said... If you are spending over $1K on chips then the extra $100 or so for a case is a very wise decision.

I just placed an order for 1500 Chipco chips and have been looking for a case to house my beauties. I initially had a plastic birdcage in my amazon cart, but it has since been taken out and replaced by the Pelican 1520.

Tastic and Wylecoyo did two great reviews on the Pelican cases they use for chip storage. Tastic did a review on the 1500 and was able to get 1200 chips in the case along with one setup of cards and a few extras.

I chose to go a bit bigger to hopefully accomodate 1500 chips and some extras. If I can not get it all in one case I will not be too worried, but from my guesstimates I should be able to fit them all.

I do have two questions pertaining to the plastic chip trays shown in the pictures of the two Pelican reviews. I ordered my Chipcos from Dave at homerpokerchips.com. Dave told me he will be sending out a plastic tray for every 100 chips I have ordered. Does anyone know for certain if these are the same plastic trays shown in the two reivews of the pelican cases? They are 4 rows of 25 chips and they have a diamond on the lid of the tray. Also do the lids come with them? I know I can ask Dave, but it is the weekend so I figured I have bugged him enough this week with starting my order.

FYI - I got the Pelican 1520 in Silver with the Pull and Pluck foam on Amazon for $85... That is a great price from what I saw advertised elsewhere.

Re: Pelican 1520 Case for 1500 Chipco chips

Congratulations on your case purchase, I think you will like it. As far as the chip racks which will come with your chips, I am not certain but I would expect you will receive racks (five rows of 20 chips without a lid) and not boxes (what you see in the review pictures).

If you don't get boxes with your order and need to pick them up later, you can get them directly from Chipco for $3.00 each (this is how much I paid last year anyway). All you have to do is call them and order over the phone with a credit card.

Re: Pelican 1520 Case for 1500 Chipco chips

hey guma,
for 1500 chips you may want to consider the pelican 1510. that is if you can return/cancel your 1520 order. i hold 15 chipco 4x25 chip boxes in it with extras. the weight of the case with chips is pretty heavy. but, the 1510 has roller wheels on it which makes it a heck of a lot easier to transport.

Thanks for the info Wylecoyo! I know I will be in touch with Dave this week so I will ask him to make sure. Thanks for the link to Chipco as well. I will defintiely give them a call if I do need to order those racks.

Looking through and reading a lot posts about the Pelicans I had seen where you have the 1510 for your set. I do like the fact that it has wheels, but it just seemed a little big to me. Of course that is just looking at pictures on the internet. I was looking for something as compact as I could get. I don't think the weight will be much of an issue since I will just be carrying them from the house to the car or across the street to my buddy's villa. I did see where you carry your laptop in the case as well. I did think that was a great idea. You have your portable casino there!!! It is nice but for now I will go with the 1520, and once I add to my chips (since we all know I will) I may get the 1510.

Any pictures of your setup clbg571? I did a search and didn't find any. I would love to see how you have it set up and what all you can fit in there. I am considering which Pelican to buy next because I need a bigger one to fit more stuff.

Thanks.

By the way, grant my request and I will grant yours.

You can get those chip BOXES (4x25) at discountcasinogear.com for about a buck a piece or so. That's where I got mine. If you want covered chip RACKS (5x20) they have them there too for a decent price as well.

How were they? I bought some from there and then ended up replacing them with Chipco boxes because all of the lids were warped. The bottoms were all OK, but every single one of the tops were warped in such a way as to protrude downward and prevent a good mating between the two halves. Don't get me wrong, they were still usable, but they allowed a lot of room for my chips to move around.

I have had much better luck with my Chipco boxes. They are two to three times more expensive, but seem to be of a better quality and consistency than the ones I got from DCG.

Re: Pelican 1520 Case for 1500 Chipco chips

They were ok, worth what I paid for them. The tops are bowed down a little bit on them, but they all seem to work fine for me. If any were too bowed, I just pushed with my thumbs to bend it back up a little bit. They definitely have some play in them though. Probably 26 per row rather than 25.
