I spent the majority of the day researching and reading through some very informative reviews on cases for storage and transporting chips. I have to agree with what was said... If you are spending over $1K on chips then the extra $100 or so for a case is a very wise decision.
I just placed an order for 1500 Chipco chips and have been looking for a case to house my beauties. I initially had a plastic birdcage in my amazon cart, but it has since been taken out and replaced by the Pelican 1520.
Tastic and Wylecoyo did two great reviews on the Pelican cases they use for chip storage. Tastic did a review on the 1500 and was able to get 1200 chips in the case along with one setup of cards and a few extras.
I chose to go a bit bigger to hopefully accomodate 1500 chips and some extras. If I can not get it all in one case I will not be too worried, but from my guesstimates I should be able to fit them all.
I do have two questions pertaining to the plastic chip trays shown in the pictures of the two Pelican reviews. I ordered my Chipcos from Dave at homerpokerchips.com. Dave told me he will be sending out a plastic tray for every 100 chips I have ordered. Does anyone know for certain if these are the same plastic trays shown in the two reivews of the pelican cases? They are 4 rows of 25 chips and they have a diamond on the lid of the tray. Also do the lids come with them? I know I can ask Dave, but it is the weekend so I figured I have bugged him enough this week with starting my order.
FYI - I got the Pelican 1520 in Silver with the Pull and Pluck foam on Amazon for $85... That is a great price from what I saw advertised elsewhere.
