Chips: 349 | | | Cases in general As most everyone knows are not that good. The premium and wood cases from ASM and alike are the only ones that are worthy. They don't have the right configuration I'm looking for except in the wooden cases which are very expensive. On the other hand, it's hard to justify spending that much money on a case when all it does is hold chips. This leads me to an idea. I'm going to think about what it will take to make some good chip cases. There is a market for it with all of the crappy ones out there. |

Chips: 9,391 | | | Re: Cases in general If you are looking for a case to carry and display your chips, your options are relatively limited.
If you just want to carry them, a Pelican or other camera/tool case and plastic boxes (that hold 100 chips each) is a sturdy and cost-effective option.
If you just want to display them, the "mahogany" cases are a reasonable option.

Chips: 349 | | | Re: Cases in general I'm going to meet with a friend of mine who does a lot of wood work. Were going to discuss the idea of making some wood cases and display cases that are good. Other than ASM there really aren't any good wood cases, nor any display cases for that matter. I will let you guys know if we plan to pursue any ideas. Might even do custom cases based on the chip maker, like ASM, Paulson, NexGen, etc. Stay tuned |

Chips: 158 | | | Re: Cases in general You'd make a killing if you could make them affordable ($150 range) as no one makes a case in this particular price range. As nice as the ASM cases are they're not worth the money, especially if the maker of this case said that he'd charge about the same price for this case.
In fact if you could make a simplified (and i do mean simplified) version of that case i'd definitely be in for one. |

Chips: 349 | | | Re: Cases in general It would be more simple than that. Probably no racks but just one removeable tray where you can put your cards and dealer button underneath. Or split up for 2 decks. I'm thinking the bottom of the tray will be covered with velveteen. The case would have handles on the sides. All hinges and latches will be solid, not plated. Wood will be solid as well.
300, 500, 600 and 1000 chip cases 50 x 10 rows and 60 x 10 rows. Designed for x amount of chip spacers or not.
Maybe some wooden racks would be good and customized for certain chips? Again, Paulsons/Blue Chip, ASM, TR King, Chipco, etc. This way people get a rack that is going to work for the chips they have. Could be both 20 x 5 and 25 x 4 configurations. As you can see I'm still thinking about it. Any input would be great. |

Chips: 158 | | | Re: Cases in general I'd figured it'd be 2 maybe 3 trays. Racks were never a consideration as they'd be too labor intensive. The glass top would be a nice touch and not too labor and cost intensive i think.
First thing you'd need to decide on are dimensions. Would each case be the exact same width and length (w/ varying heights) or would you make each case it's own distinct size (ie the mahogany cases)? I would think it'd be easier to have them the same size so you could use the same layout, as well as base and tops no matter how many chips it would hold. Either way it's important info to decide on since from there you can decide how many rows you could use and how many chips per row. |

Chips: 349 | | | Re: Cases in general Yeah, the guy is also an engineer and I worked in engineering my self so manufacturability is a big concern. It will take some thinking to come up with something to cover the bases. Different racks probably won't work out, but either one or two trays should do it. Good thought on keeping the different cases the same layout size. I think it can be done, at least one alpha 500 chip case will be made. |

Chips: 108 | | | Re: Cases in general Why not keep it simple and basically copy the design of the pokerchips.com cases? Very classy looking, simple design, easy to make different size cases..... Basically have a tray for x amount of chips that lifts out with room to store cards and buttons underneath. I would definitely be interested. I have been looking at them nice cases are PC.com for awhile and would have one or two if they weren't priced so ungodly high. Nice dark walnut or Birdseye maple........ |

Chips: 349 | | | Re: Cases in general That will be a consideration among others. The main difference between the cases will be the trays, the chip slots won't be milled out, yet slotted with wooden rails. The cases might be made out of walnut, oak or mahogany but not birdseye. Birdseye is way too expensive.
Would like to do a display case too. So maybe just the two cases and call it good. I'm thinking walnut for the case and mahogany for the display one. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
