Chips: 501 | | | Anyone have this 500pc oak case? I'm just wondering if anyone here has this 500 piece oak chip case, and opinions if they do:
I want to get something decent for my ASMs before they get here... planning on getting two 500 chip cases, one for the cash set and one for the tournament set. Other suggestions are welcome

Everything esle has held up for years. |

Do some searching here and you'll probably find some information.
Hopefully, some members with first-hand experience with that case will also chime in.

I could end up just getting a bunch of chip boxes - which I plan to do anyway, but another kind of case would also be nice.

I currently keep most of my chips in the 600-ct birdcage carriers which work fine and (I think) look great. Highly recommended. The other case that I have (and like) is the 600-ct version of the Mahogany case. You see the 500-ct and 750-ct versions for sale everywhere -- the 600-ct one is harder to find, but I think it looks better as far as dimensions go. |

That being said it has held up well for me. The first one that came was defective in teh clasp, but it was replaced for free so I ended up with two of them.
The quality is fine, not great by far better then an aluminum case, and for casual use it looks nice. As long as the price is right go for it. |

Chips: 107 | | | Re: Anyone have this 500pc oak case? That looks exactly like the case that came with my dice chips a few years ago. It's okay but I was always afraid of the thing coming apart. Apparently one did come flying apart after I sold the chips (1000) and cases (2) to someone else -- the handle gave way, the thing dropped to the ground and dumped its contents everywhere.
If you are like me, you won't be hauling your entire set around very often. I would recommend thinking about getting enough 100-chip racks to hold your chips, and storing them in a cabinet or drawer or on a shelf if you want to display them. Racks come in handy when it's time to play cards, so they perform double duty.
Then for transport get a case that holds three or four hundred. You can focus on a high-quality small case instead of a cheap big one. Take your time, keep doing research, because you don't need a case right away and might as well get something you'll be happy with. |

I don't know where to find a 600-ct birdcage, though. Mostly I just see 1000-ct cases, and that's not really what I want. Of course, that'll just make me want to get another 200 chips just to fill them (not really a bad thing, except for my bank account).

Here is a specific auction, please note in the case of 600 chip carriers they are mostly offered in sets of two: http://cgi.ebay.com/Poker-Chip-Chips...QQcmdZViewItem
They also offer sets of four 400 chip carriers: http://cgi.ebay.com/Poker-Chip-Chips...QQcmdZViewItem
As you might expect, the auctions are dirt cheap and they will rape you on shipping and handling, but at least they have what you are looking for and the price per unit is not too terribly bad. I keep toying around with the idea of buying a set of the 400 chip carriers, but I really don't need them. Could be kind of cool though - hhhhhmmmmmmm.

Seymour, I know what you mean about the extra capacity being a negative as well as a plus. I use two of these cases to hold my 1000 JBs and I've been feeling the strong urge to buy 200 more just to fill the 2nd carrier, even though 1000 is really enough for what I use them for. It would be less expensive to buy a 1000-ct carrier and transfer the chips over, but I prefer the looks and function of the smaller 600-ct carriers. This is becoming a quite expensive habit... | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
