Chip Carrying Case, Cube shaped, Cherry

Has anyone here seen this case?

http://pjccmall.com/cgi-bin/shop/ind...OKERCASECUBECH

Looks pretty nice to me and reasonably priced (click the "additional images" link below the picture). Wondering if the frame is wood or plastic.

Re: Chip Carrying Case, Cube shaped, Cherry

Poking around the site, I think I found the answer to my own question regarding wood or plastic. They also have a black one and the write up for this one says it is wood. I'm interested in possibly ordering the cherry wood one, but hesitant to do so without seeing one first. Any one have more info on these?

Re: Chip Carrying Case, Cube shaped, Cherry

I have one of those cases. It's wood.
I think it's a great looking case at a fantastic price.
I thought somebody was doing a review of that case.... I'll have to dig around the site a bit...

Anyhow, I think it's good for local use, but wouldn't recommend using it for travel. The design of this case is different than your normal birdcage. With this case, there are three parts:
1. A bottom "basket" --- with the bottom and sides.
2. The chip "tray" -- a base, handle, and a little frame. You stack your chipracks on this base, then lower the tray into the basket.
3. The "top". Just a clear plexiglass sheet that drops over the handle to provide a lid.

The other parts are a couple of small wooden pegs. These are used to pin the tray to the basket, so when you lift the handle, the basket lifts with it.

I can provide pictures and answer more questions if you want.

Thanks for the info. A couple more questions if you don't mind. (1) Would you say the durability of the case is on par with the typical birdcage carriers? The wooden pins have me wondering in this regard. (2) Is it a pain to fit the chip trays within the frame that extends from the base? From the web site photo, it looks like the frame could get in the way when stacking and removing the chip trays.

w16227 has one of these in black:

Here are some pictures of mine:

I don't have any of the regular birdcage carriers, so I can't really compare. But I'd guess that the wooden one is less durable, mostly because it's wood.

Those pins only have to carry the weight of the "basket", not the chips. So they're plenty strong. My main concern with them is that they're free to vibrate loose or get lost.

The frame does make putting the chipracks in there a bit fiddly. The racks that came with the case are just a bit large for my chips. (I've got the RT Plastics chips in there now, as you can see in the pictures, but prior to that I had the Paulsons in there.) So the chips are free to wobble a bit in those racks. The problem is that with that frame, you have to lower each rack down vertically onto the top of the lower racks. But since the chips are free to wobble sideways in those loose-fitting racks, the top rack won't easily nest onto the lower rack. You have to reach in there with your other hand and square up the chips a bit while trying to tilt the top rack what little you can...

Actually it's taking me longer to describe this than it takes to do it. It's not horrible, just a bit fiddly. Some better-fitting racks would make things go more smoothly.

Re: Chip Carrying Case, Cube shaped, Cherry

Thanks again -- I'll be needing another storage solution soon and this looks like it could fit the bill.
