I am really hoping to get something a little less "industrial" looking than all the aluminum/task force case etc., and more portable than the mahogany case. I am hoping to see the leather case that unclepat reviewed... everyone who commented on it seemed to like it. Perhaps I will end up getting an expensive case from PC.com - I don't know. |

He was very helpful; unfortanately the cases just didn't do it for me. I think I might have been the only customer in there all day, so I bought a pack of Copags, because he was so nice. |

They're nice people but I don't think the store is very healthy right now, as you probably observed. Quote: |

Chips: 1,728 | | | Re: Adventures in Chip Case Shopping.... Funny you should mention that, I'm looking at putting some old Samsonite attache cases back into use for that purpose. The frames are much sturdier than the stuff coming from China, and I have several that have been sitting around since attache cases seem to have gone by the wayside in favor of laptop cases. Quote: |

I recommend that any solution you decide upon should utilize the concept of "container-within-container" (i.e. several chip racks/boxes within a larger container) vs. the typical "loose-chips-in-rows" concept found in the typical chip case. Having the chips already in racks of 20 or 25 per row makes setting up so much easier and faster than trying to pinch- or pluck-out the correct number chips for each person's buy-in from some giant heavy case with rows of 50 or more. |

Chips: 1,728 | | | Re: Adventures in Chip Case Shopping.... I wholeheartedly agree, that's why I'm looking at putting one or more of my old attache cases to use for this purpose. My inclination is to use racks rather than boxes. While it doesn't take me that much longer to pluck chips out of a 50 chip row and count them, it's still much easier if all you need to do is pull off a stack from a rack without counting them at all. Also removes the potential for human error (especially for those old folks who don't see so good close up.) ... oh! maybe that was supposed to be "us" old folks Quote: |

Chips: 5,690 | | | Re: Adventures in Chip Case Shopping.... Well, I just kept on stashing cash from poker, and so far I have $1500 - figured that would be enough for chips, cards, and a nice case (or two 500s). I don't need to spend all the money, but I'm willing to. I figured that I might end up getting a high end case for $400+ from pc.com, since I had the cash - but would really prefer a nice travel case. After looking at the ones in the 30-50 range, I figured I might end up spending more. I recently learned that I might be able to switch my one-spot order to two spots. I'm not sure if I will yet, but if I do that means a case that is not as nice, to cover the extra cost.
After work yesterday I was looking at custom wooden cases on the internet - might be able to put some chip boxes in a nice empty case - I don't know. I'm was just a little surprised how few quality options there were.
I have lots of time left, so I'll keep shopping around, and report on any other cases I can get my hands on. It's difficult to tell what the internet pictures actually represent. |
