Build your own chip case

Found this on the web.

http://www.rockler.com/logon/chipbox.cfm?

Might be a little small - buy could be easily modified to a doublewide.

Re: Build your own chip case

I'd recommend using a 40mm drill instead of a 1-1/2", especially if you use NextGen's or some of the larger import chips.

Re: Build your own chip case

What kind of chuck do you need to use for a 40mm drill bit?

I think a Forstner bit is what you had i mind.

Yes, a Forstner. I don't know if they make a 40mm hole saw? To date, I haven't seen one.

The shanks on the Forstner's depend on who makes them. The cheap-o import I have is 10mm (.393"), and the carbide I have is 1/2" with a flat for shank extenders. I'd suggest using a good-old-fashioned keyed chuck. I don't know how well a keyless chuck would hold this drill with the stresses that are on it. I've even managed to spin this drill in a keyed chuck.

Don't we all need tools?
I mean even if you have a garage full of tools, there is always room for a few more.
Kinda the same as chips i would imagine.

If you have tools - you can always build more storage for your chips. Then you have room for more tools. Then you need more chips so you can use the tools,

Re: Build your own chip case

Heh...You can never have too many tools!

Admittedly, joining this forum opened up a new round of tool buying for me. I think it started with packemup's thread on wooden chip trays. That did it....

So- it all started with a 40mm Forstner bit. Now I want to build my own chip trays, a chip chest, custom card cases for my DalNegro / Modiano cards, and a poker table. But before any of those projects are even started, I'll probably have a few more to add to the list.
(Not to mention a certain test fixture I need to finish first. )
