Chips: 6,883 | | | Consensus on Time it takes to Oil Your Set How much time is it taking to oil your chips, in general.
Im currently oiling 500 of my Pharaohs and it is turning out to be quite a labor of love.
Im actually dreading the thought of having to oil the additional 500 that are coming.
How long is it taking you guys?
I just need an idea so that I have something to compare to, and see if anyone has any tips, advice, etc.
SPEAK!

Chips: 684 | | Depend on how quickly you work. Personally, I think it would take me forever to oil 500 or more chips. I can only do 30-50 at a time, then my hands get sore and/or I get bored and/or something important comes up and I have to break off. I think I'll oil a few for a photo session, but that'll probably be it for me. |

Chips: 6,883 | | | Im thinking on average it takes me an hour to an hour and a half per 100 chips. this includes tv distractions and general boredom.
not that this matters or that anyone should give a rats ass.

not that this matters or that anyone should give a rats ass. | Well I would have to compare this to labeling chips....I don't have anychips that can be oiled.....unless I oil my plastic ones but that woudl get messy!
It took me close to 6 hours to label my first batch of 500 chips. The remaining 300 probably took less than 2 because I had the experience of the previous batch and knew how to best apply the labels in an efficient manner.
Good luck finishing them off! |

Chips: 4,240 | | I think a rough estimate for me is around 1 minute per chip for the whole process. It sounds like a lot, and it is when you are trying to oil 1200 chips but I found when I tried to take short cuts that too much oil was used. Then when I put what I thought were dry chips back in their acrylic trays I found out the next day they were not quite dry as more oil dripped off onto the racks.
So take your time and to it right the first time is the way I would approach it. Hopefully you are not in a rush to use them for a tournament a day after you get them so you can just do a couple stacks while watching TV.

Chips: 385 | | | I currently have over 400 of my new ASMs oiled. I usually oil a few stacks of 20, fairly liberally with the oil, making sure to get oil into the horseheads and cracks. Then I take the first stack that I oiled and dry around the perimeter of the whole stack, then I take each chip and press it between the paper towel to soak off oil. After I do this with all the stacks I let them sit overnight (on the table, not in the racks). The next day, a little oil is pooled around the edges in between chips, so I lay them out on paper towels for 24 hours. Then I flip them over onto more paper towels for another 24. You have to use new paper towels because they get oily. Then they are done and put in racks. For drying them I use exactly one paper towel per stack. And when laying them out, 36 chips fit on each paper towel. The whole process takes me under a minute per chip, but its definitely above 30 seconds a chip. Depending on what I am watching on tv as I work, sometimes it seems like I go really slow. But, I make my wife help me so its not so bad, although she works about half the speed that I do because her fingers get sore.
I should go lay out the 130 my wife and I oiled up last night.
I think it will all be worth it when its done. But my advice would be to just do a little at a time. Trying to do more than a couple hundred in a day would really suck. |

Chips: 9,087 | | | Well, personally I think all this is a little crazy IMHO. I would estimate I could oil 500 chips in about an hour. Get a plastic container big enough to hold all your chips or at least a few hundred. Anyway, then pour your mineral oil over them. Make sure they all get cover on both sides and then pour off all the extra oil into another container; then use a clean cotton towel to wipe off excess oil from two at a time. It only takes about 10 seconds to wipe them off... Actually I would let them sit for 24 hours after I poured off the oil but before I wiped off the extra - gives the oil a little more chance to penetrate...
If you do the math and round up it only takes about an hour and a half of actual work...
This idea that you have to use a miniscule little drop of oil and treat them like they're an ancient artifact is over kill, IMHO...

Chips: 6,883 | | Hey Circle...I wish I could oil mine as you have directed, it would sure save me some time, I experienced some minor problems however, as stated in another thread. Quote: |

Its no big deal, I think its already dried (i did this on about 20 or so chips) but now I lightly oil a few at a time, and only let it sit for a minute or two before removing the excess and drying.
