While I appreciate that oiling up the chips does make 'em nice an bright, I've found that it doesn't take much handling to actually break a chip in nice an proper. I've had a stack of brand new, clays dusted ASM samples at my desk and just monkeyin' around with 'em every once and while seems to have done the same thing as spending hours with the mineral oil and rag. YMMV.

FWIW folks should look at the post from Jimb of ASM on the history of oilin' up the cheques.

I oiled my Pharaoh's (500 new ones) in two sittings of about 2 hours each. So, that would be about 125 per hour. I did them in sets of 20 whereby I'd put a few drops of mineral oil on the cloth, oil 4 chips, re-oil, 4 more chips, repeating 5 times. Then I dried the 20 with a clean, dry cloth. This was a pretty slow process, but I wasn't in a hurry and actually enjoyed it. They came out nice, although I agree with others who've stated that oiling the whites makes little, if any, difference.

You guys are taking way to much time in oiling these suckers. According to Jim's explanation, it should only take 5-10 minutes per hundred. I'm not sure what oiling the fronts of the chips will do, but he says they only oiled the sides of the chips 15-20 at a time.

It took me about 3.5-4 total. I worked straight through until all 600 were done. I could barely move my hands when I was finished.
