Does oiling chips help to keep dirt and grime off the chips?
I've been looking through the forums on the subject of oiling chips. The big question, to oil or not? I've got a new set of 600 NJ Clays, and I've used them once. My original intention was to let them break in naturally. But, I've heard that the clay chips can get pretty dirty after some use.
Does the process of oiling the chip help to keep the dirt buildup to a minimum? It may be the deciding factor on oiling my chips.
I've been told that oiling the chips brings out the color of the chip and that it also seems to help them stay cleaner longer! I plan on oiling my chips when they arrive.
I've never had any NJ clays, so I can't say for sure, but in my experience with other Blue Chip made chips, oiling really helps bring out the color, but isn't as necessary for preventing dirtiness. In general the blue chips tend to be harder than Paulsons, and there fore the colors don't rub off of them as much as with the Paulsons. Oiling my Paulksons really helped the dirtiness, but if the NJ clays are anything like the other BC's I've seen yit might not be as necessary.
Besides bringing out the color and possibly preventing color transfer is there any information out there that says it is good for the chip or does anyone know?
