Chips: 1,728 | | Don't know anything about baby wipes. Are those a cleaner or some sort of oil/lotion type thing? I know that J&J Baby Gel in lieu of baby or mineral oil, has been suggested by some chip collectors. Quote: |

Chips: 14,010 | | | I believe those things usually have Aloe and Lanolin on them. That will make your chips slippery as baby poop!

Chips: 303 | | | Dunno about Aloe, but I have used a plain hand soap with a lanolin additive. It doesn't shine, or darken as much as mineral oil, but does appear to coat the chip against dirt, and chip ruboff, just as mineral oil does. And the 'lanolin-ed' chips don't seem to be as slippery as the one's treated with mineral oil.
Maybe a middle-of-the-road alternate? -fwiw. |

Chips: 14,010 | | | Just for fun, I tried oiling my sample set of the new trademark Paulsons while I was working on my ASMs. I noticed there was nearly no difference in appearance aside from the edges being ever so slightly more reflective.
I would say there's no advantage to oiling your trademarks or pharaohs and is pretty much a waste of time (unless it prevents rub off, which I'm going to test). ASM's though is a completely different story, gotta oil them to bring out the beauty.

If they're not as dusty and chalky as some of the other chips, perhaps the addition of oil makes a not-so-noticable difference.
I noticed that when I recently oiled my Mardi Gras samples, it was difficult to see a difference when looking at a single chip before and after application of the oil. However, when looking at a stack of before's right next to a stack of after's, the difference was night and day. MSPatton has a thread somewhere in the boards with pictures that illustrate this. |
