No definitive way to remove yellow/brown stains from inlays?(ie PCA)

I've already soaked in warm water/oxy for 15-20 min and scrubbed with magic eraser. Still over 50% have what seem to be irreversible inlay stains. Is there a solution ?

Is the stain behind the white inlay? I had issues with that too.

I went overboard when oiling some of my PCAs and had what sounds like the same issue, oil under the inlay. It was pretty bad in the beginning, but it went away on most of the chips after some use.

Discolored before cleaning? Which denoms? (guessing mostly $5 chips)

If it's oil under the inlay, don't soak more. Just let them air dry for a couple of weeks. I had the same issue with my PCA hundos.

It was definitely almost exclusively the $1s. Ill try and put up a couple of pics as examples. It doesnt seem to be oil or moisture. They already came stained and stayed that way before and after soaking/cleaning.

Severe case is right. Not sure how to get rid of that.

Re: No definitive way to remove yellow/brown stains from inlays?(ie PCA)

On a ~single~ severely stained chip, I'd try an overnight soak in a mild bleach solution (20% Clorox, 80% hot tap water). Mild agitation would be beneficial, as it is more likely to seep under the inlay if the solution is moving around some. Follow that up with a neutralizer soak (another 24 hours), then let it dry (standing upright) for a week or so, with plenty of air circulation. The object is to actually impregnate the inlay with solution, have it whiten the inlay while impregnated, then thoroughly rinse and dry it out.

Might work, might not. Dunno what it will do to the edge spot colors, or to the inlay's printed ink. But it's probably worth a try to me, since I personally wouldn't be using any chips that were that stained anyway.

Use gloves and eye protection, and keep the stuff away from the kiddies and pets. Good luck.
