Do Casinos not clean their chips?

Edit-

"DO" Casinos not clean their chips?

I live in North Dallas so Winstar World Casino isn't too far from me. I play $1/$2 no limit holdem there and sometimes when I'm just trying to call with a $5 chip, I'll try tossing it in carelessly and because the chips are so disgustingly dirty, literally the chip under it will stick to it and both chips will go in...thus I have just made a raise to $10. This has happened on more than one occasion, and obviously in a situation like this I can't say, "Oh I just meant to call," because 1. it makes me look weak and 2. there is a betting line.

My friend's feel the same way. After a session at the card table we feel so disgusting because our hands are so dirty from the chips.

So...why don't casinos clean their chips? Can they not periodically put them through an industrial washer, one specifically made for poker chips?

Re: Does Casinos not clean their chips?

Hi-end casinos generally do. For the others, some do and some don't. IMO whether a casino cleans its chips from time to time says a lot about how they feel about their players and staff.

Re: Does Casinos not clean their chips?

Easy solution - say "call" before tossing.

But I agree. Foxwoods is like this and their chips are DISGUSTING. I wash my hands BEFORE and after using the bathroom when I play there. There are industrial chip cleaning machines made by Dolphin and I'm sure others out there which can do the job but they don't seem to bother. The ceramic tournament chips were caked with gunk too, really nasty and they're easy to wash if you want to. Used to be even worse when they allowed people to eat at the tables too.

Down the street, Mohegan Sun has worn chips but they seem to wash them occasionally since they don't just stick together like they are glued as the foxwoods chips do. Finger gunk is noticeably less as well so I think they must wash them there.

Re: Does Casinos not clean their chips?

Ya, I know I can do that. But I am extremely quiet at the table, kind of like Patrick Anotonius, but I think he actually says "call." It's just part of my demeanor to not say anything.

I can't believe more casinos don't wash their chips. It shouldn't be too much of a task.

Re: Does Casinos not clean their chips?

Sorry, forgot to put the in that first comment

I know it bothers some dealers to have to handle that bio-hazard all day long. But you know there's more profit for the casino if they don't spend money on cleaning machines and employees to run the cleaning machines and employees and security to move the dirty chips to the cleaning area and the clean chips back to the cages/safes and security to watch the employees cleaning the chips and so on and so on.

So basically they're just being cheap b@stards and don't care about the filthy disgusting chips on their tables.

Re: Do Casinos not clean their chips?

Very true JM. I'm sure if there was more competition in the casino world for this specific casino that they would start cleaning them to make it appear nicer. But until Texas gets gambling and casinos legal, that will probably not happen.

Yep. Speaking of cheap b@stards, the filthiest chips I've ever seen are at Trump's Taj Mahal in AC.

You aren't the first I've heard this from either. They must be pretty nasty if their reputation precedes them like this!
