Re: Who likes oil?

Really? News to me. Most forums I visit want you to use site search and bump old instead of creating new threads for existing topics. I know we joke a lot about very old threads being bumped here, but wasn't aware of this being a CT policy. I guess I missed that one.

i agree but it's kind of a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation, imo....

start a new thread that has been discussed ad nauseum and everyone jumps on you.

bump an "old" (2 1/2 months? not old btw...) thread and get the same response.

you can't win.

Re: Who likes oil?

It's true that folks do sometimes get all weird about bumped threads. I think they're funny and get a kick out of it, but do tease about them sometimes. I wasn't aware that people were really upset about the old thread bumping though and though it was just good natured kidding. Curious what Ten's point of view is on the matter since it's his forum.

Re: Who likes oil?

My thoughts:

1) To bump or not to bump... BUMP, of course!
2) If you can see oil on the chips, wipe it off with a dry cotton cloth.
3) If you feel oil on your fingers after using the chips, you need to wipe 'em off again.
4) If you buy 8 oz of mineral oil and it does not last for the rest of your life, you're using WAAAAYYY too much. JM has it right. 3-4 drops should do a stack of 20.

Re: Who likes oil?

BTW, I think people only get their panties in a wad when someone bumps about 50 old threads just to collect chiptalk chips to sell something in M2M. Haven't seen as much of this since the Classified credits can be bought with cash now.

Re: Who likes oil?

Can someone post a pic of an oiled chip next to a non oiled? It would be good to see the colour difference.

These are some solid ASM's:

Oiled on left, Not oiled on the right (if you couldn't tell).

Hope it helps!

Oil should be used only when the kids are sleeping over at a friends house. And it should NOT be used sparingly IMHO. And by the way, there is nothing wrong with bumping. In fact, it goes well with oil.
