I love the way my chips look after oiling but they get dirty so quickly (just a few games) that I've taken to leaving them unoiled after a good cleaning.

Actually, almost 14,000 sold so far, so much fewer to play with now too. Quote:

Chips: 3,054 | | | Re: Who likes oil? It depends very much on the chips.
Chips that desperately need oil: - BCCs (e.g., T-molds, customs, etc.).
- TR Kings.
- Used clay casino chips after they've been cleaned.
- Palm Imports clays (solid prototypes for sure; not sure about the spotted and/or 2nd generation).
Chips that generally don't need oil: - New Paulsons (especially home Paulsons; seem to have a varnishy coating on them).
- Chips that have already been oiled (e.g., pre-oiled ASMs, pre-oiled BCCs).
- Chips that have been handled enough (worked in) already.
- Plastic chips (including Faux Clays).
Chips that might improve a little with oil, but it may not be necessary: - ASM customs (more improvement with certain colours).
- Some older Paulsons (e.g., Dunes, web mold solids).
- Some new casino Paulsons (e.g., Palms, MGMs, Planet Hollywoods, etc.).

Chips: 14,462 | | | Re: Who likes oil? I'd agree with that list except that ASMs all improve with oil. I haven't seen a color yet that doesn't look better. But one reason you may not notice it is that they tend to oil them at the factory for Chiptalk members. So if you got customs, there's a good chance they oiled the edges for you.
BTW those chips in the ebay auction above are a prime example of TOO MUCH. They should not be glossy when you do it right. Just brighter richer colors. And shouldn't get dirtier when you use them a few times.

-Sg | Because the faces of ASM chips (I dunno why) aren't chaulky and already got bright colors. So only the edges of ASM need oil.

If you lightly oil the edges of ASMs and Paulsons, that little bit of oil will naturally get spread over the faces just from play. |

Chips: 5 | | | Re: Who likes oil? I have 500 Pharoahs coming, that I just bought from a chiptalk member....and I am scratching my head wondering if I should oil them or not? From what I have read, Paulsons don't seem to get much brighter when they are oiled ( I guess they tend to be the exception to the rule).......and I have also read that oiling your chips attracts more dirt???
One concern that I did have......has anyone oiled their clays, then played with plastic cards and have oiling fingers transfrer to the cards? That would be a nightmare??? |

Chips: 1,487 | | | Re: Who likes oil? You will not need to oil new or used pharoahs.
Some brands of chips , when new , brighten up allot when oiled and excess wiped off.
It does not affect using them as long as you dont leavethem wet.
BTW, I know you are noew here ,but you should post new questions as a new post, not by bumping up old threads, even if they are related in topic.
Welcome to CT.
And congrats on the chips!
