I wasted a whole bottle of DCC on them and found that any other cleaner was about just as effective or mostly better (if it didnt outright damage the stamp).
and pipe shield ruined a test batch of my purples (discolored them)
did the gunk dissolve oof or did you have to scrub?
also, how did you protect the stamp if you had to scrub it after the soak

also, how did you protect the stamp if you had to scrub it after the soak | I used one table spoon in 1/2 cup of water. 20 chips/batch. I let one batch sit for 2 mins. then used a soft bristle toothbrush to brush off the worst using my thumb to cover the stamp, this resulted in no damage to the stamp but a little bit of elbow grease. I then let a batch sit for 5 mins. brushed off the dirt very easily but I was a little concerned about the stamp. I let a few chips sit for 20 minutes and the stamps started to come off. I would say the ideal is approx. 3 min. After I brushed the chips I rinsed them at least twice under running water. Anything that was stuck in the circle or hat and cane I picked out with an exacto knife. After oil they look great. |

I left mine sit in DCC for at least a day and still couldnt get the crud off with a toothbrush.
Did your concoction blanch the chips at all or did it help bring back the color?

Chips: 64 | | | Re: Diamond Chip Cleaner's Main Ingredient...TSP The Chips that I used TSP on were Paulsons and Chipcos. I let the chips soak in a solution of 1 tablespoon of TSP in 32 oz. of water for 5 to 8 minutes and then gave them a light brushing with a small soft brush.
I had tried the dish soap in water method of chip cleaning and I found that it was quite labor intensive way to clean chips when there was quite a bit of grime and dirt in the Top Hat and Cane on the Paulsons.
A short soak in the TSP solution and a light brushing made easy work at getting the grime and dirt from the Top Hat and Cane. After giving the fronts and backs of 10 chips a light brushing, I would put those 10 chips in a stack and lightly brush the edges of those 10 chips at the same time. You'll find it's much easier to do a faster and better cleaning job when you brush a small stack of chips instead of do them one by one.
Maybe 1/10th the effort to clean a Paulson Chip with TSP compared to the Dish Soap and water method. What is best though is the very cheap price for a small container of TSP that will help you clean 1000's of chips for a nominal price of appoximately $5.00. I'm not kidding when I tell you that you can clean 1000's of Paulson, Ceramic or Plastic Chips. PLEASE NOTE: Some CT members have had problems using TSP on their ASM chips. I recommend that you use some other method when cleaning your ASM chips.
Recently, I personally cleaned over 2000 Paulson and 500 Chipco Casino Chips using TSP with no adverse effects to the chips. 200 of the chips were circulated MotorCity Quarters...No visible dirt or grime, but you could feel a slight stickyness to the chips. A 5 minute soak of the MotorCity's in a TSP solution + 3 cold water rinses and a quick toweling until the chips dried... gave me 2 racks of Paulson's MotorCity's Chips that were now Bright, Shiny with a Very Soffffffffft Feeling. (People that have Paulson's with that "Soft"
feeling know what I'm talking about.)
If you find yourself with quite a few Paulson's or Chipco's that you want to Clean up, invest $5.00 in a small container of TSP and give it a try on a few chips. I think you'll be quite suprised at the time and effort savings.

I do lightly oil them. They do beat out Oxyclean, Pipe Shield. For the cost, fast, and easy. I really highly recommend TSP....
