The only chips I have yet to try on is hot stamp.

I used it on hot stamps, only let them soak for 2-3 minutes then scrubbed them with a soft tooth brush, no problems very clean.
WARNING!!!!!!!!
When I first cleaned some of the hotstamps I only let them sit for 2-3 minutes...I let some soak for 15 minutes and the stamps will come off! Good thing I had some extras!!!!

Phosphoric acid is a tri-protic acid... trisodium phosphate is the fully un-protonated conjugate base, which is a STRONG BASE! (Hence the "strongly alkaline" comment in section 9, and "reacts violently with water and acids" in section 10 of the MSDS). Dissolving it in water produces a very basic (alkaline) solution (and is exothermic = releases heat). That's why it irritates skin, eyes, lungs, respiratory tract, stomach, etc.
Avoid exposing "TSP" to any acids... unless you want to see a very exothermic neutralization reaction. And you should add acids to bases, whenever possible... so to reduce the probability of something going horribly wrong, add water (or stronger acid) TO a concentrated solution of TSP, not the other way around, or it'll tend to spatter. |
In English, please ???

Acids and bases... I always remember a little phrase from high school chemistry whenever I'm in doubt...
Little Johnny was a chemist
little Johnny is no more
What little Johnny thought was H20
was H2SO4.
Ack!!! All the high school chemistry I didn't think I needed is coming flooding back. Thanks... I think. |

I may have to try this sometime, sounds entertaining. Like pouring a little brake fluid on a pile of pool chlorine. That's VERY exothermic. Quote:

I used this stuff as described (maybe a little stronger - I didn't measure) and let the 20 of the Nevada molds from the recent GB soak for 30 min. This is a little long, but typical of what I do with diamond chip cleaner.
It dissolved the chips. I'm serious - it dissolved the chips. Interestingly a single Freddies Paulson showed no damage at all.
Be very careful. Pics to follow.

The more I read the more I think of you as a scientist. LOL
One tablespoons with 32 ounces cold water mix. Let your chips sit for 10 min and you are done.
I really can't wait for the melded chips. LOL |

I really can't wait for the melded chips. LOL | I put about 2-3 TEAspoons in 64 oz water. I did let them sit for 30 min.
The paulson was ok, the others melted.
At best, there is a narrow line between effective and dangerous (narrow theraputic window in medical-speak). At worst, it just isn't the right thing for ASM chips. Use at your own risk.

L | This is a follow-up to my post in jldecarlo's thread:
I just looked at the patent (linked above), and noticed that their TSP solution contained a mixture of (di)sodium carbonate and sodium hydrogen carbonate (i.e. sodium bicarbonate). That mixture acts as a buffer to bring the pH of the cleaning solution closer to neutral (and consequently convert a lot of the TSP to a mono- or even di-protonated form). If you just used TSP in water, the pH is going to be much higher (more alkaline), and is apt to damage the chips in one way or another (e.g. dissolve the metal flecks in ASMs, or react with/dissolve some other component)... not to mention, be not-so-great for your skin. |
