Re: To Oxi Clean or Not Oxi Clean that is the question...

I did use Magic Eraser on the edges on some of the chips to get off some dirt and some color transfer, but it was kinda messy as the Magic Eraser would start to come apart. I think the Magic Eraser works well on a few chips, but since I wanted to clean 400 chips the Magic Eraser method would have been too messy since it starts to break apart. I still need to take the pics of my OxiCleaned and oiled PNY 1s, but I've just been so busy this week with work. I do notice that I have some chips that show some slight scuff markings on the edges still that i might need to go over with the Magic Eraser. Overall I am very pleased with the results of cleaning with OxiClean and then oiling.

Re: To Oxi Clean or Not Oxi Clean that is the question...

I just bought 2 racks of Bluz at the Bend used chips and they were absolutely FILTHY! I am just like you in that I have no patience to wait for D-Cleaner, lol. So I broke out the OXY, dumped 2 scoops in a 1/2 sinkful of hot water, let them soak for 30 minutes or so and they basically wiped clean! Just a few of them required mild scrubbing, but I just laid them all out on a water saturated towel, and took a soft brush to the wholw lot at one time. Rinse in a colander and put back on a dry towell, lay another dry towell and pat dry! The whole process took less than 45 min oer 100 chips!

Just for the record, I DID order 2 bottles of diamond Cleaner though! I know I will have more chips eventually.........

I Oxi Cleaned 400 of my PNY 1s the other day and this morning I oiled them. Hopefully they will be dry tomorrow and I'll post pics!

I'm glad I used the Oxi Clean it made the chips so damn white and squeaky clean! It did leave them dry, but the mineral oil took care of that!

Thanks to the community as usual for all your advice!

Re: To Oxi Clean or Not Oxi Clean that is the question...

I saw the Bluz on eBay, nice looking chips -- glad to hear they clean up well.

I've used Oxy Clean on Paulsons and T-Molds, worked great for those. I've tried the Magic Eraser too...it works if you're willing to put up the effort scrubbing each chip, but not as well as an Oxy soak and a toothbrush, IMHO. (And it didn't work as well on the difficult dirty lines along the edges either.)

I think I even read somewhere here, that somebody used Oxy to take the Pipe Shield smell off of chips...personally, I think I'd definitely want to clean the chips off (with something like Oxy) after using PS.

Just caught this thread. I can speak from personal experience oxi clean and toothbrush then oil is way better diamond chip cleaner. I tried that stuff and I had to scrub even harder with the brush to get the chips clean. Not worth it. Stick with oxi clean and a toothbrush. That's IMO.

Re: To Oxi Clean or Not Oxi Clean that is the question...

I've used Oxy Clean once on some 1003's and had great results. I forgot the powder/water ratio i used, I think close to the "soak" instructions. I sold the set and the new owner wants to give them a rinse. From collective experience what would you recommend as a proper ratio?

Also, has anyone ever used too strong of an Oxy Clean mix? Is there such a thing?

i tried both the powder and detergent on old paulson hot stamps. powder worked better. the hot stamps were already fading and partially off. i did however rinse them several times after soaking and then let them dry. i found that the stamp would pretty much come off if i were to use a eraser sponge or a toothbrush if they were still wet from the soaking and rinsing. after that it didn't come off. i think i used like 1 cup (plastic spoon supplied) to like 3 real cups of water. they did dry the chips out but oil does wonders.

i also used powder on royal blue starbursts to compliment the cash set i was making and after about 5 minutes of soaking the water was turning blue and the hotstamps were silver and "falling" off in the water. those bleed bad, and i wanted the hot stamps off anyways.
