But Oxi Clean will not damage Paulson chips. But it will almost melt ASM. Must be the lead | I would say my PNY 1s have finger dirt on them and I would like to clean that off. What type of soap is recommended? I see there is some Dawn soap in my kitchen currently, but I don't want use anything that would harm the chips. |

I would say if you got don't be afraid to use it.

- Couga | I'm not afraid, just concerned about causing any damage to them. I would only need to clean my PNY 1s which have some finger dirt and also dirt around the edgespots as well. I wouldn't mind it if I had to oil them afterwards if they seemed dried out. I know I'm sounding cheap, but the Diamond Chip Cleaner is $19.95 and $9.95 to ship! I know I already have a lot invested in my PNYs, but I already have Oxi Clean on hand. One thing about me is that I HATE to wait for something to come in the mail once I have something in my mind that I want to do. Perhaps I can call Roto Rooter and have them deliver some free Pipe Shield? |

but
OXI is great (but it will turn gold hot stamps silver)(and a no-no for ASM's apparently).
Ultrasonic cleaners work great too but are small.
I personally think D-chip cleaner is over priced garbage. I'm planning a future thread to explain this.
I'd love to try the pipe shld, but didnt getany yet. However, I just got some chips that were treated with it and they smell like a urinal sanitizer bar (I dont know if it was due to the pipe-shld though).

Believe it or not, there is some finger dirt on my PNY 1s. By no means am I saying that the chips are filthy dirty, but I would like to clean the finger dirt and make them shiny white. |

Chips: 14,462 | | | Re: To Oxi Clean or Not Oxi Clean that is the question... You don't need pipe shield or diamond for these if its just some mild finger dirt as you describe. Use any kind of mild cleaner and a soft toothbrush. Dawn, or Sp1c & Span, Tide, whatever you have that is a cleaner. Even fantastic on a paper towel may be enough.
Oiling after cleaning is a good idea though and if done correctly will NOT make your chips slippery at all. The key is to use mineral oil VERY VERY sparingly. As in, a dab on your finger for a stack of chips. Coat them, wipe it off with a dry cloth and let them dry at least overnite to soak in. It will brighten the colors including the white.

I Oxi Cleaned 400 of my PNY 1s the other day and this morning I oiled them. Hopefully they will be dry tomorrow and I'll post pics!
I'm glad I used the Oxi Clean it made the chips so damn white and squeaky clean! It did leave them dry, but the mineral oil took care of that!
Thanks to the community as usual for all your advice! |

Chips: 45 | | | Re: To Oxi Clean or Not Oxi Clean that is the question... Well, I think I might be the only one, as I have not read it anywhere, but I have tried Magic Eraser pads from Mr Clean. The worked unbelievable, took off all dirt, left absolutley no damage ( I tried them both wet and dry). They cleaned the front of a couple of white chips that I got in trade that were very dirty in about 4 seconds with little effort.
I don't know if they do anything to the chip, but I don't see anything. I can't believe the results. The pad itself is very soft, not abrasive at all. The pad does take a little beating from the chips, but you get 2 in a pack for $5 CAN ( same american $ I guess) and I cleaned about 70 so far and the pad has a little wear.
If anyone else has tried it let me know. I tried the oxi clean route, which worked, but the results and no clean up afterwards from these pads are tops in my list. | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
