Chips: 2,047 | | | How to get my babies to Houston So Chipgrrl and I are making the big move, leaving the cold confines of Canada and heading to Houston at the end of the month. We have booked our flights and are arranging for ground transport for all our worldly possessions.
I realize that what I send with the movers will be spending lots of time indirectly exposed to the elements, and since the destination is Texas, I assume it'll get very hot in the truck for an extended period of time.
Thankfully, Joshuadalton has gratiously allowed me to send some recent chip shipments to him for local pickup once we arrive (you are da man Josh!). That still leaves 1700+ ASMs, 500 Winner Club, a few incomplete sets and samples/collectibles totalling about another 6-700 clays, and 1100 faux. Thankfully, I can put the faux in the moving truck confidently, as evidenced by Ten's oven test.
So my options are:
Ship the chips separately.
Pack them and take them on the plane.
Try to insulate them very well and send them with the movers. (Least sure about this one)
What say, CT?

Chips: 14,842 | | | Re: How to get my babies to Houston I say ship them. The issue withshipping them (especially the ASM's) is that if you use the postal service there is still a good chance they will sit somewhere along the way. Using FedEx or UPS can become costly but quicker transit will ensure that they don't sit anywhere for very long. I can tell you ASM's are very sensitive to heat - from what I have seen Paulsons not as much. Maybe ship the ASM's via a quick delivery and the Paulson's and other chips via a slower method to save some $.
I hope it all works out

We drove all my chips in the car when we moved last summer. It was tight but in the end I was able to take the wife, the dog and the chips. It was dicey on the wife for a while there....
I'd try to take as many as I could checked on the plane. But if not, I'd ship them separately. The Post is probably going to be just the same as the movers, in terms of going in a truck for a while. FedEx would give you much better treatment and a shorter time enroute, though more expensive. |

Chips: 2,047 | | | Re: How to get my babies to Houston Thanks all! (Should it be y'all? ) No car...the car is a piece of poo ...and it will either be sold (or most likely donated) before we go. Cars are so much cheaper in the states and it is a pain getting a Canadian-purchased vehicle insured in the states (especially in the state my poor toyota is in), so we'll be car and house shopping upon arrival.
If I could I'd buy my chips a seat on the plane Quote:

Chips: 14,842 | | | Re: How to get my babies to Houston I never thought about carrying them on the plane. You could easily get them into a rolling carry on suit case - Assuming the carry on rules are the same in Canda as the US you can each take two bags on the plane with you. Just fill one up with chips and put it under the seat so you don't need to lift it - other than putting it through security. I guess I would double check the security rules for brining that much clay/palstic on the plane - hopefully they don't think it is explosive matter |

Chips: 2,047 | | | Re: How to get my babies to Houston Thanks for the offer! Greatly appreciated, but if I do ship, I'll likely ask someone to in town to ship for me once I'm down there if I go that route. Just so it's a single trip.
Let's stay in touch for when you come down for the cruise though. I assume the cruise is out of Galveston but you are flying into Houston? If we've found a place and are marginally settled we could have an impromptu game and warm you up so you can take all the money on the boat!
Cheers! Quote:
