With a tourney tomorrow I am not sure oiling them today is a good idea (Of course if your players don't mind potentially oily hands). It sounds like you haven't oiled chips before - right? If not that may cause another problem just getting the hang of it (again I am not the chip oiling master by any means)
I say no oil. Let the dust come off with play and the natural oil from the players hands.
Just my $.02
Congrats on the chips and good luck in your tourney - take action pics too Quote:

No need for more than a few hours drying time. Use pure mineral oil VERY SPARINGLY on a terrycloth towel. Let soak for a 10-15 mins and wipe with a dry towel and let them sit overnite.

Boy they look so much better now.
I highly recommend oiling brand new, chalky chips. Do yourself a favor and give them a quick rub with a rag prior to oiling. Get as much residue off first. |

Chips: 2,924 | | | Re: Protege' ... to Oil or Not is the question I would say that if you have the time to oil them ALL, and time to let them lay on a towel overnight for one night, you should oil them before the tournament.
USE ONLY MINERAL OIL.
When we got our ASM's we oiled them and laid them on a towel with a fan blowing on them overnight. (Flipping them just before going to bed) They were dry to the touch in the morning. Not at all greasy.
I oiled them again, set out again all night with a fan blowing on them and they looked even better, but had ZERO greasy feel to them.
Then we just started playing with them. Not one person said anything like, "Gosh these feel greasy."
We've been using our ASM's weekly for almost a year now, and almost all of the 50 cent chips and most of the $1 chips are starting to get that killer "worn in" look that I was hoping for. A bit of grime in the mold, slightly rounded edges, etc. Awesome.
I can't wait to see what my ASM's look like in 10 years. |
