Well its gonna be real close!!!! Check them out....
Now your probably sayin...."WTF" those look like shite!!
And you would be correct they do....but this proves that the rubber cement techinque can be done!!!!!!!!! MUHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAA!!!!!!!
Here is the stuff I used....
Got it at Wally World for $1.42. It took about 10 min to "paint" the half pie. I painted one side (approx 5 min) and when I got the last one in my stack of 20 I went to the first chip and "painted" the obverse face (another 5 min or so).
As I was painting the second side I noticed that the cement on the edge of the chip touching the baking sheet I was using to allow them to dry would occasionally stick and pull off in a few spots (5 out of the 20 had minor sticking). When I noticed this I would touch up that area before painting the second side. Then after they had dried I moved all of them to ensure that none of the edges had stuck from the second coat...and none did.
Then I took them out to the garage where the experiment would take place. I heated water and poured it into a pan holding the dye. The chips soaked for about 2 min and I started to move them around and I noticed the glue had softened and was sticking together...at first I was in shock and panicked, but then my scientific mind took control and realized that it
wasn't sticking everywhere only where the chips touched!!!!
After a few turnings and a soak for about 15 min I pulled them out dried them off and rolled all the glue off using my fingers (about 3 min total). It came off like a peice of cake!!!
So, now that I know the masking method works I just need to perfect a cold method of dying the chips... will it be vinegar? Hydrogen Peroxide? Some unknown chemical banned in the US? Who knows....but when I find out I will share it!!!
Thanks for reading!
