Re: Help - Edge Spots on Dyed Faux Clay?

My 700 White FC's can not come quick enough. I am going to try this technique. I hope this works out 1/2 as sweet as I imagine it.

We will need to get an addition to the Poker Chip Factory to mock up FC's with the dye colors & edge spots.

I would think you could mask off areas the width of a brush stroke... And the irregular shape would give you a real clay effect (i.e., not every edge spot would be exactly the same)...
What about modeling clay? That would work easier than wax, but I think rubber cement would work best. Good luck guys.

If you can paint on rubber cement satisfactorily, why not just skip that step and paint without masking? Either way, you're relying on brushing something on in a reasonably straight line.

Re: Help - Edge Spots on Dyed Faux Clay?

I think dye is less likely to wear off. Just speculating. I don't own any fauxs. Take me out for the stoning.

Re: Help - Edge Spots on Dyed Faux Clay?

I have no idea if this would work or not, but I'll throw it out there.

What about wax?

That is how you make easter eggs - might work for chips. Just a thought.

Re: Help - Edge Spots on Dyed Faux Clay?

I am probably going to donate some of my incoming FC's to Research & Development...

Anyone want to suggest a base / edge spot color combination?

Just off the top of my head:

The 2 (3?) colors used must all combine to form the desired base color.

Do the edge spot colors need to be lighter? Or will a darker color that is dyed first combine with a lighter color to form the same base color?

Does anyone have experience dyeing an already dyed FC?

Just some questions....

Re: Help - Edge Spots on Dyed Faux Clay?

just looking at this thread and every idea looks really cool
i would never be able to pull this off but maybe one of you could.
with the new theory of the rubber cement i guess your no longer restricted to just one edge spot
really i guess you could put as many edge spots on as you liked
just a thought
