Re: Another Faux Clay Dye Job (poor man's version)

How many did you do at one time? I assume you didn't do all 200 in the same pot at the same time. Did you ever add kool aid between batches? They do seem to be a very consistent color for doing them in multiple batches. Do they just lay on the bottom like in the picture and you flip them every so often or do you consantly stir them?

Re: Another Faux Clay Dye Job (poor man's version)

Those blues came out really well +++++++++

That basket looked like a teamer basket though - I assume it was deep enough to submerge the chips and you didn't steam dye them

All these kool aid flavors make the chips look like big versions of sweet tarts

Keep it coming guys - this is great stuff

VIVA FAUX CLAY!!!!!!

I started with the steamer basket, flipping the chips, but quickly lost patience doing 10 chips at a time. I pulled out the steamer basket, threw 20 chips directly into the pot on low heat and stirred for 15 mins. They came out the same as those in the steamer basket. I did 30-40 at a time after that. Total time took around 2 hrs for 200 chips.

Winters,

After letting them dry out, have you shuffled them with plain whites to check on dye transfer? That's the Holy Grail I'm waiting on.

Re: Another Faux Clay Dye Job (poor man's version)

Wow! Looks great.

Can you shed some light on how you dried them? Lay them on a towel? Drying rack?

Thanks.

Jesse

'you must spread some reputation around before giving it to Winters again'

berrylicious

For some reason this makes me want to buy BOTH faux and blank white T molds to dye. expensive I know, but now I'm curious if I can make my own half pie T MOLDS!

My brother in law is going to try to dye Super Diamonds. I'll let you know of the progress.

Rinsed them in cool water and dried them with a towel.
