Re: Another Faux Clay Dye Job (poor man's version)

I don't recommend buying peroxide in gallons unless you want to end up in an orange boiler suit

Heh, as long as you're buying the cosmetic solution there shouldn't be a problem. AFAIK there's no way to distill hydrogen peroxide, only dilute it.

Re: Another Faux Clay Dye Job (poor man's version)

I've got access to pretty strong (I'll have to check, but I think 60%) peroxide at work. Drums of the stuff.
No fauxs though...

Re: Another Faux Clay Dye Job (poor man's version)

And hurt in contact with eye balls, yes.
But then again, so will the 95% sulfuric acid we use too. And the 60% hydrochloric acid, and...

Had an idea regarding edgespots on fauxs. Posted in another thread, but I want to be redundant today: Coat the parts of the chip you don't want dyed with molten candle wax, then submerge chip in dye. Should protect against bleeding much better than masking tape. Drop chip in heated water, then brush of the wax.

Good idea/bad idea?

Edit: Or just use modelling clay.

Re: Another Faux Clay Dye Job (poor man's version)

Yeah, and you could write your denom or draw a little logo on the center of the chips with the hot wax as well... I can see it now! Custom hot-wax-stamping..

I'm off to buy 10000 white Faux Clays!

Re: Another Faux Clay Dye Job (poor man's version)

A couple of attempts using packaging tape to mask the chip. I like the wax idea.

I've got my wife's hand waxer in the other room and she's gone for the afternoon. Stay tuned!!

did not get good contact with the tape on this chip
