quart.
A gallon would be good if you plain on using your chips a lot for future cleaning.

I guess I will just get a gallon cause like you said who knows how much I will actually clean them, I have 300 chips I want to clean right now, but probably more to come.
I also sent you a PM incase you havent noticed, if you could atleast reply to the last section of it then I will know for future reference.

Re: Need Pipe Shield???

Anyone know about getting a cleaner like Pipe Shield (or similar from another brand) outside the States? (Like in Sweden or the Nordic region...)

I've had some problems cleaning my ASM's (inlay comes loose... ) so i'd need some advice...

Re: Need Pipe Shield???

Ehum

Ok... I'm no expert on chipcleaning, (which is probably obvious, but i wanted to be clear on that! ) but i tried to apply some suggestions i've got.

First i filled a small bowl with teppid water and added 1/2 capsule of Ajax All-cleaner. Then i put the chips in, let them soak for a minute or 2 and brushed them thouroughly but gently with a soft toothbrush.

They became clean (sligtly dry and chalky feeling to them, just as they were when i got them initially)

What i noticed though was that one of the chips with an inlay had gotten water under the edges of the inlay. I actually could use my fingernail to catch the edge of the inlay and i could have ripped it off if i'd wanted.

Another chip with an inlay showed no such damage... When inspecting them i got the feeling that the chip that was "undamaged" was coated with something. The chip where the inlay got loosened had a noticeable edge between the inlay and the chip (although they were level). And also the inlay felt slightly different in texture.

The chip with the inlay that came loose.

The chip that wasn't damaged (coated?)

The loose inlay

(I really hope the images will show. This is the first time i try to post pics)

/Mike

Re: Need Pipe Shield???

ASM uses an adhesive to join their inlays to chips. BCC and Paulson have the inlay pressed into the warm clay then coated. This bonds the chip and inlay quite firmly.

Be very careful cleaning ASMs with any liquid that can get under the label.

If you want to maintain the hot stamp don't use the ajax. It pull it right off. Pipe shield is a wonder for that stuff. If you don't have any, or can't get any. Use a scotch brite pad and some tepid soapy water.

Be prepared to brush for a while w/o the Pipe Shield.

Are you certain this is the case?

I was hoping that ASM's chips generally were coated and that the chip that became water-damaged for me was incompleted in some way (and thus kept at PC.com to be sent out as samples...)

But if the inlays on the ASM's actually only are adhesives, that would make cleaning them so much more troublesome... and that puts everything in a new perspective for me... (I was dead-set on ASM's... until now...)
