Re: How I Flatened out My Paulsons

Nice job Asam!

Just a couple of comments based on my experience...

FWIW, I haven't microwaved Paulsons, but I've microwaved ASMs with brass flakes and they were fine.

My ASMs lost a wee bit of mold detail (roman mold).

Also, I only microwaved my chips for 17 seconds (more than 20 was definitly too long) - I wonder if that's a microwave or chip composition difference? There was no way I could apply 60 lbs. of pressure safely, I think. I used a C-clamp for about 20 seconds, and that increased the diameter of the chip about a mm. Finger tip pressure was enough.

Every microwave is diferent and I'm sure different chips need different amounts of heat but I couldn't detect any dirrerence in the chip diameter. They all are smooth and uniform and no different than the chips that weren't processed.

Re: How I Flattened out My Paulsons

Great write up! Thanks Asam!

Just my $.02 - A while back I put a couple beat up cherries (paulson w/ cherry hotstamp) I had in the microwave (in a cup of water) and had no problem - and they flattened out well. I think people over react about putting metal in the nuker.

I make popcorn in the microwave using a paper bag and a staple. Heat water & tea bags that have a staple in them.

I would imagine sticking a chips with a hotstamp in the microwave for long periods of times or outside of a cup of water could be bad, but less than 20-seconds shouldnt do anything.... of course YMMV.

Re: How I Flattened out My Paulsons

I think your hotstamp will be damaged if you nuke it for any length of time. Who wants to be first to try it?

I already did.... I'll try again right now. and post back with pix.

i'll try 30 secs, the 45... that will probably destroy them if its going to happen.

Re: How I Flattened out My Paulsons

its not even worth posting pictures... but here they are.

I placed the chip in water, ran the nuker for 30-secs... nothing other than a few bubbles on the chips.... ran it for another 45 seconds - almost immediately after the 30... other than some hot ass water and a hot chip... no damage..

now i dont know about running a chip in the nuker without being submerged....

let me go see

chip in microwave NOT in water...

before:

in the nuker for 45-secs (i started at 30, then bumped it 30 more and quit at 45-secs):

out of the nuker:

zilch, nada.... looks exactly the same, albeit hotter

That chip is a trooper! 1:30 minutes in the microwave total - no visible damage (well other than the chip in the chip)...

honestly, i wanted to see it spark...

the fact that the hold stamp is flat makes it hard to create an arc. you can't get a spoon to arc edge-to-edge, but forks will. same principle.
