Cleaning off Gaming Commission paint from Grand Casinos

Any suggestions? Not a new porblem, but couldn't find any posts in the search function.

Since Pipe Shield does not seem to work, am I left with scrubbing with Magic Eraser?

It looks like the chips were painted with something oil or tar based, as the chip has soaked in the black paint. The edgespots have turned into a different color.
The funny thing is that the inlays are normal looking, which led me to believe the paint the Gaming Commission used on these chips was oil based. The chips have the normal grime and dried up dirt on top of the black stuff. It almost looks like the chip is a black chip with a white inlay.

I'm going to go look for tar remover or something like goo gone to see if it breaks down the paint. The problem is that I think the chip has absorbed the paint, so it's no longer on the surface.....

You may want to make one a sacrificial lamb and break it to see just what you're dealing with. Then you'll know for sure if its soaked in and how deep.

Re: Cleaning off Gaming Commission paint from Grand Casinos

I was going to try Tire cleaners and hand degreasers but they may not do a thing.

Looking into ink removers for plastic and stainless steel ink press rollers.

In my head I'm thinking it's oil based ink or paint. I will check tonight to see if water beads up on the surface of one of these black chips.
JM, I'll try breaking one too.

I got rust stained ones too......

Re: Cleaning off Gaming Commission paint from Grand Casinos

I just scrubbed one of the black chips with dish soap and a dish sponge just for the hell of it after doing the dishes...
The black went from black to..............ashy grey.

The edges are now the true body color though. I ahve no idea if I will ever be able to get the hats and canes and concentric circles clean.
Seems like elbow grease will get the crap off, but you are going to end up with a very smooth chip not unlike an old table worn chip. Kiss your crosshatching goodnight.

Re: Cleaning off Gaming Commission paint from Grand Casinos

I just took that ash grey chip and used some hand degreaser lotion with pumice in it. After twenty minutes of hard scrubbing with an old toothbrush I have a chip that looks like an old, relatively smooth casino worn chip. It used to stand on edge. Doesn't anymore. The hats are still grey and the center where the inlay is is also still grey, but the outer ring and edgespots look correct.

This is not worth the effort. I think.
