Another new cleaning method, UPDATED!!!

For all you folks asking me to get you pipe shield please hold on.
I am not ignoring your PM's but I may have a much cheaper route for you.
I have been experimenting and will post my findings this weekend so hang tight.

Ok I was trying Dawn dishwashing detergent and it works real good for some chips but my real old crusty set of ASM's and the Katrina chips it does not work a good as the pipeshield.
On the crusty ASM's they cleaned faster but it apears it is not a deep enough cleaning if that makes sense.
There is still stuff in the pores where as the pipe shield makes them bright, clean and shiny.
I would use the dawn on normal use cleaning though and it is a hell of a lot cheaper.
I was carefull about using dishwashing detergant on chips because I have tried it on other antiques and it is very strong and has damaged things.

It was ok on clays with lables and hotstamps.
I did not take pic's because my camera would not give the detail needed.

Hope this helps.

Will it be in this thread? If so, I'll keep it subscribed?

Re: Another new cleaning method

I'm going to give this a try. It should be here in a day or so. $47.95 includes the shipping. I'm sure that with a little work, that someone will find something cheaper, but for under $50.00 a gallon should last a lifetime.

I'm also in a "holding pattern" over cleaning 1000 chips. I need to order the pipe shield or the alternative.

Re: Another new cleaning method

It would seem that pipe shield and the product I am using are of the same quaility, and same basic makeup. There is no doubt it does the job, you can read my imput at http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/poker-...-cleaners.html. From what I've seen, If I had a large quantity to do, I would get a one gallon jar or a few of them. Make up a mixture of around 5 / 6 parts water to 1 part cleaner. Fill the container 1/2 full + - with chips, add solution, leaving about 1 inch of air space at the top, put the cover on and let it set for 48 hours, shaking it from time to time. In two days the cleaning time should be minimal, and the work very easy.
