oops. guess i was supposed to keep that a secret. actually i had bought my faux clays about 2 years ago. when i first joined the board i was wondering what the fuss was all about....so oldcycles offered to buy them...i decided to keep them, but promised to give him first shot at it.
I dont know if my jug of "stuff" is the same but after testing it out since I got it.. all I can say is WOW this stuff is a miracle... My lates test went as such... I tested 10 chips (two of each color) I soaked them in the stuff straight up overnight and when I took them out they were almost perfectly clean I rinsed them and used a walmart special electric toothbrush ($6) on them to get a few reamining in the groove hangers and WOW they look fantastic.. no ill has happened to the hotstamps or the chip... I will finish this up and post some pics later.. (oh ya btw after the soak I finished the clean on these 10 chips in less than 3 mins)
Good question... every chip I have cleaned has been hotstamped.. in fact now that I think about it.. other than single collectibles all I own are hot stamped... cherries... grands... engdahls.. hmmmm I must have a hot stamp fetish! BTW I (my kid cleaning crew and I) am still averaging about 30 secs per chip after about 1500 chips cleaned! (that doesnt include oiling them)
I don't know how it would work on chips, but if I need to clean grease, oil paint or other tough stuff off my hands, I use Avon Skin So Soft. It works great. The main ingredients are:
Mineral oil
Isopropyl palmitate
Dicapryl adipate
Even a dash of carrot seed oil!
Pretty sure it would clean the grime off a chip, don't know if it would hurt a chip though.
