Which oil for Paulson Pharaohs?

I just bought some Paulson Pharaohs and would like to oil them, but don't know which oil to use. Is there a preferred oil for Paulson chips?

Oh, and any other general advice on oiling these babies is more than welcome.

Welcome to Chiptalk!

DO NOT use any kind of edible oil... you'll end up with something growing on your chips before too long...

Some people use baby oil. I prefer a high density white mineral oil, myself. You should be able to find either on the shelf at your local pharmacy.

Yup - mineral oil. It's a common laxative sold at drug stores.

I agree, mineral oil is the best and it's also available in most supermarkets in the east. You can also drink it and become a regular guy.

Walmart has mineral oil. You don't have to oil your clay chips to break them in. If you just start using them that will break them in the natural way.

Mineral oil is fine.

Don't be surprised if you don't see a huge difference after oiling these. New chips (especially Paulsons) don't need it as much as used chips (after cleaning).

That's a good point. It's not as common to oil new Paulson chips as some other brands. For example, new Blue Chip Company chips pretty much require oiling or they don't look right (and are very hard). Paulson chips are softer and not as dull out of the box. However, you might want to lightly oil the edges to make them less chalky (i.e. get the "factory dust" off) if that bothers you.

Re: Which oil for Paulson Pharaohs?

Thanks for the feedback. I just got the chips and I can see why they don't need a significant oiling (they look great). They are quite dusty though, so I think I'll oil the edges very very lightly to get rid of the dust.

Re: Which oil for Paulson Pharaohs?

I never oiled my pharaohs when I got them b/c I was planning on shuffling them a lot. Well I just oiled 2 of them right now and they look great! Really brings out the colors. This is even after shuffling them for hundreds of hours over the past year.

PS - I used mineral oil from walgreens I got years ago. I originally bought it to use on my guitar fretboard. I never thought I'd have to ever use it again, lol.
