Chips: 4,648 | | | Re: Cleaning rust from hostamped Paulson chips Don't know if this will help but go down to you local motorcycle shop and get a tube of simicrome.
It does wonders on rust on motorcycles.
You might also try some toothpaste and a cloth.
Put a little cab on a cloth like a teeshirt material and rub, the granulars should take off the rust but not damage the chip.
Maybe some barkeepers friend also if you have any, can find in local grocery store by the comet cleanser. Do not use comet or ajax.
Beware just try these on 1 chip at a time because I am not sure how they will work for certain on clay. |

-jamby | Let me know how it works out for you.
Another tip that might work if you are a smoker.
Lick your finger tip and dip it in an ashtray to get ashes on it then rub rust spot.
Don't know how this will do on a chip but it works great for tarnish on silver, copper etc. |

Chips: 1,186 | | | Re: Cleaning rust from hostamped Paulson chips I'm not home this week - out of town on work. I'm then on vacation for a couple of weeks so it will probably be quite some time before I have a chance to try it out on my chips.

Chips: 1 | | | Re: Cleaning rust from hostamped Paulson chips I haven't heard anyone mention the CLR stuff that is made to clean rust off sinks. You can get it locally. http://www.jelmar.com/CLRbath.asp
I have no idea what it may do to the rest of the chip, but it sure is something you should look into.
BTW,. I registered, just for this, but I appreaciate the idea of cleaning up somethign you just bought used. Ihope it helps, but don't blame me if it disintegrates the entire thing. |

I really thought it would, although I had already cleaned them up quite a bit before I went to the CLR. I soaked for 30 minutes (full strength) and no effect, but no problem with the edge spots or inlays.
The more I think about this, I think those chip trays are cast aluminum or some other alloy. So it may not even be rust. Who knows?

Chips: 1,636 | | | Re: Cleaning rust from hostamped Paulson chips My latest Family Handyman magazine recommends 'oxalic acid' for rust stains. They say you can get it at paint stores for about $7. I haven't tried this on chips, since I don't have any rusty ones (and I'm jealous of those who do)! |

For the record, regarding CLR - Tomb is right, it had no effect on the Paulson chip rust.
