If you do not intend to sell your collectible chip, then go ahead and clean it.

However, a collectible chip generally should not be cleaned for a number of reasons. One is that the grime and dirt represent someone "famous" may have touched that chip and left part of themselves on that chip in all that grime. The other reason is to not damage a chip from cleaning.

Far too many people think they know how to clean a chip, and I'd bet that 95% of those people are doing it incorrrectly.
