Re: Chip Cleaning Machine - Need engineers and tinkerers

Hey all.........

Just been doing a bit of thinking on the chip cleaning concept, what about using high pressure air or water to clean them.

Water jet type like a mini automatic car wash for chips..... use some of that chip cleaner solution mixed in and that could work, but would have be low volume of water I belive to keep "clay" chips from becoming damaged.

Air type would be similar to above but with a completely dry air jet.

But a combination that rinsed them with the cleaning solution first to loosen up the crud and then an air jet to clean crevices and dry them may be the best idea.

Let me know what you think, always good to get ideas flowing.......

Hey All,

I have not forgotten about this - but work has been killer lately so I have not been able to use my design software for personal projects.

I think that the key to any of this is getting the chips a good soak in some decent cleaning solution. The diamond stuff works (so I have read), so I will be starting with that. The "gunk" needs to be loosened with something before any cleaning takes splace, otherwise the physical removal of the debris would be labor intensive or potentially damaging from a bulk standpoint. If you are doing this one at a time, then you can be more careful. Even semi-automated, the process would need to be "rougher" on all portions of the chip to ensure that they are cleaned. I want to be able to handle at least a dozen at once- hopefuly more.

If anyone has links to how the casino type machines work, please post them. I would love to have some concept that lets you feed in bulk (put dirty chips in, get clean chips out) , but I do not see it happening without a large bill for the machine. As an example - Tens drawings would seem to work in some form, but the cost of the markers is prohibitive.

I just cleaned 300 of them last night.
It took me 3 hours of time, 1 bottle of diamond chip cleaner, 1 roll of paper towels, and 3 band-aids (my fingers are raw from the solution and the cleaning).
The chips look great but there has to be a better way!!
My idea is to use an ultrasonic jewelry / eyeglass cleaner. Has anyone tried this? If you can clean a $10k diamond ring in one safely why not poker chips? Use the diamond chip cleaner in place of the jewelry solution?? You could do 20 - 30 chips at a time and only have to dry them off. Please post your thoughts.
Thanks!

lol - I missed this post.

was researching this today

Ultrasonic may be the ticket. I have ordered some solution and will be picking up a cleaner for testing.

TEN - PM me if you want to send out some of the dirty chips for evaluation. I will use a couple of my own to start, but I do not have many overly dirty chips. Heck, test it yourself if you like. If you have extras, we may be able to work out a deal where I buy 20 or so for testing.

One note- it is probably not a simple as using the cleaner as the fluid. We may have to dilute the cleaner with water to get the right surface tension. I have contacted the manufacturer and they do not know of anyone using the cleaner this way, so I will need to test it out. This may work to our advantage, since the old solution may not be reusable for too long. Sonics may break up the debris so that we cannot filter it out easily.

One thing that Diamond has said, pure water will damage chips (no real way for me to verify - so anyone chime in). I assume that he means soaking them. Anyone have a bottle of the cleaner handy? Is there an ingredient list?

I would imagine that this method would be great for NJ ceramics too - since they have a bit of texture to them. The ultrasonic can reach inside the texture easily , where rubbing may require added pressure.

This would be an awesome way to clean chips. If you want more capacity - buy a bigger cleaner.

I will follow up with testing - but it will probably be next week. I just ordered the solution and it will take some time to ship.

This link will not take you directly there, but take a look in the gaming products drop-down menu: http://www.casinovendors.com/VendorL...roducts.com.au

Might be the answer Ten is looking for.

Re: Chip Cleaning Machine - Need engineers and tinkerers

Dirty casino chips + diluted diamond cleaner (75%) soaked overnight + shower rinse in morning with 10 sec magic eraser rub + dry towel + mineral oil = beautiful clean chips

OR

Hotstamped St Jo Casino chip + 10 sec rub using cotton with non-acetone nail polish remover to remove HS + overnight soak in diluted diamond cleaner + shower rinse in morning with 10 sec magic eraser rub + dry towel + mineral oil = beautiful clean chips.

Whoever thought of the non-acetone nail polish remover for the St Joes is a genious. Oh, and use some gloves so your hands don't dry out in the process.
