Re: St. Jo's after lot's of work

I tried cleaning 5 of the $25 used St. Jo's I just got in powder Tide and water, with a toothbrush. 90% of the foil comes off easily after 10-15 seconds of brushing, but it's hard to get the remaining 10% off. Also the red inlay looks dull afterwards, I think a thin sheet of foil is making it look dull.

The dirt is tougher to get off, guess I'll have to read up on removing dirt.

To be honest I think the $25s are the least attractive - the green is a little dull, and the edge spots aren't great.

As for their used condition, I'm a noob to Casino chips, but maybe 1 in 10 have little chips/nicks missing from the edge. They look well used to me, they don't feel anything like new Paulson Pharaoh's for example, much smoother and with smooth edges.

Re: St. Jo's after lot's of work

Well one word of advice, paulson chips are NOT DISHWASHER SAFE, lol. I through about 10 in the silverware rack to see what that would do, not only did it not clean them that well, but it bleached the hell out of em.

Re: St. Jo's after lot's of work

Dawg,

If you get the diamond cleaner from Jim you can clean your chips in no time. The gold foil will still take the same amount of time. With the cleaner you just soak your chips for 10 min. After that just wipe them dry and you have very clean chips. You just have to condition them with a little mineral oil and they will look sweet.

Are you using the Mr. Clean Magic eraser for the gold foil? Look for that in this forum if your not.

GL,

Re: St. Jo's after lot's of work

Thanks man, but first I tried using stuff we have around the house (Tide & Deep stain remover + a toothbrush). The cleaned up really nice after 10 minutes of soaking.

Hard to tell though once i reduce the picture to 97k. Bottom 3 are the hot stamped side. A few come out like the middle one, probably need to be soaked more. The best ones come out like the one in the 2nd pic - only a black shadow remaining.

Re: St. Jo's after lot's of work

I tried some of the things mentioned above last night as well as the "Magic Eraser" mentioned in another thread and just ended back up with the old trusty rubbing alchahol and toothbrush. It seemed to produce the best results.

Re: St. Jo's after lot's of work

I found that using just rubbing alcohol & a Q-Tip worked better than many of the other methods I tried. It seems to remove both the foil & (especially) the black stamp with ease. Lightly rub the alcohol soaked Q-tip on the foil, let it sit for 5-10 seconds, and then with the same Q-tip, rub off the foil/stamp with a little force.

Re: St. Jo's after lot's of work

Thanks for the tip. I still have lots of chips to clean. I'll try some alcohol.

Great tip Johnny, I'll give it a shot. Between Tide, Mr Clean, rubbing alcohol and q-tip, I think we're pretty much there. I'll use the Mr Clean to do the initial pass, then q-tib and rubbing alcohol to finish off the job. Can't wait to try it when I get home!

That's interesting, cause i tried rubbing alcohol and a toothbrush and neither the dirt nor the foil came off at all - I even soaked the chip in alcohol for 5 minutes, still didn't work. And with my Tide concoction, at least I don't have to worry about acute isopropyl alcohol exposure effects like coma or eczema.

I better look at the bottle again, maybe it's ammonia?
