Easiest way to remove gold foil?

I just purchased a large quantity of the St Jo chips from the chiproom. I have been removing the hotstamp with an electric toothbrush. There has gotta be a better way!!!!!!!

Does anyone know of a cleaning solution that will ?melt? off the foil?

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Easiest way to remove gold foil?

You could try using duct tape. Just dab the chip using the sticky side and you should be able to remove a fair amount in a short time (it worked on some hot stamped super diamonds I have). Perhaps some heavy duty cleaner (like Oxyclean) will do the job. Good luck.

Re: Easiest way to remove gold foil?

How does it look once the foil is off ? I have 350 of these so far with another 350 on the way.. I had not actually considered trying to remove the stamp.

I would have though the label underneath would be damaged anyhow with the stamp being pressed on it ? Any chance of a couple of pictures..

Thans

Matt

Re: Easiest way to remove gold foil?

Electric tooth brush.. kick azz!!! hotstamp vs. tooth brush sucks.

similar boat - have hotstamped soprano chips

ive been soaking the chips first - slighty hot... then diggin & scrapping.

i use a large flat sharp scraping blade they do not allow on airplanes. depending on the depth of the hotstamp it takes more or less

rewash - then re.... im embaressed to say - apply nail polish side stripes.

luckily i only did this to 500 chips...

its a pain in the feat....

Will nail polish harm the inlay?

Re: Easiest way to remove gold foil?

I like to live on the edges sometimes. I've never tried this, but it "might" work. Has anyone tried a small application of lighter fluid on them? It might make them smell a bit, but I'm not sure how it would react with the foil hot-stamping.

If anyone's tried this, let me know,

Re: Easiest way to remove gold foil?

The nail polish remover worked great on the hot stamp, it melted away, and practically wiped off. But.......it left a discoloration on the rest of the chip.

I'm headed to the store for lighter fluid

Re: Easiest way to remove gold foil?

I would think you'd have to be very specific about the application of either nail polish or lighter fluid.

What about rubbing alcohol or Goo-Gone? Goo-Gone is pretty strong stuff. I used that to get hot tar out of my girlfriends tires once.
