Chips: 840 | | | Re: Easiest way to remove gold foil? i posted this in another thread, but it belongs here:
i've gotten the hotstamp removal down to under 10 seconds per chip.
the secret formula - "non acetone nail polish remover".
basically just brush some on with a toothbrush and wait about 5 minutes. it eats away the foil leaving a black sludge-type mess. brush with toothbrush for about 3 seconds, then rinse under running water.
the only thing you have to be careful of is the clumps of foil can get stuck to the edges of the chip if you're not careful. i found that using running water instead of a bowl (or whatever) takes care of this.
i've done 600 chips like this. no damage to the chip itself, no discoloration or other side effects. most importantly, no magic eraser crumbs all over my kitchen . . .

Chips: 103 | | | Re: Easiest way to remove gold foil? gwilkx it works like a charm. It doesn't look like the inlay is damaged in any way by the remover. I used a cotton square to remove the foil. That worked better for me.
Thanks,

Chips: 5 | | | Re: Easiest way to remove gold foil? What about using pure alchol to remove the gold foil? I used something called "red spirit" ("Roed Sprit", Im Norwegian). It is basicly fuel for primus and consists of pure etanol and some toxic that make people vomit (so you wont drink it )
What i did was:
The alcohol i used..
Took some cotton and soaked it with etanol
Rubbed the cotton on the chip with the hotstamp..
The result..
The gold foil removed verry easily, just had to rub for around 10 sec, and it was gone.. The chips dont seem to take any damage from the alcohol (unlike with the nail polish remover, hehe). But can there be long time effects from this? If not, why dont people use cheap alcohol for this? I used it to clean some chips aswell, the dirt came right off! Then some babyoil afterwards, and the chips looked like new.. |

Chips: 1 | | Re: Easiest way to remove gold foil? - I bought a rack ot the $100 ST Jo's and used nail polish remover and Q-tips to remove the hot stamps. You have to be careful because there are actually two hot stamps, a black hot stamp put on by the MO gaming comission and a gold foil hot stamp put on by Jim (chip room.com). If any of the liquid gets on the inserts you can remove it with a fresh q-tip and more nail polish remover. You will need a new q-tip every other chip. Once complete, you can barely tell the chips were hot stamped.

Felt like a real man at the checkout counter. I'll be giving my St Jo's a good workout tonight. I'll report back on the results. And afterwards, I should be all set for my next manicure party. |

Just like previous posters said, 10 sec. per chip. Had the wife going back over the white chips, like an assembly line, since sometimes the ink gets smeared onto the outer edges but it comes off on the second wipeover. |

Did you rinse the chip with water during/afterwards or was it just apply, wait, wipe? Also did you use cotton balls or toothbrush? I have tried using running water & toothbrush, but the black get's smeared into the chip and I can't seem to get it off afterwards.
Many thanks,
