Question about the effects of cold on NJ Skulls

OK, I know this is a stupid question, but please bare with me for a sec, it does have a purpose, and I really need to know the answer.

We all know (since they were 'tested' )that extreme heat does obviously cause issues with some chips.

This however is not extreme cold i am asking about, simply a normal winter's night here in Calgary. (Although sometimes it's gets to -40F)

The reason i am asking about cold, is here in the Great White North (Calgary, Alberta), sometimes a game is played, and then you go out after the game for a few drinks.

During this time (especially if you get a cab home afterwards) your chips could be in your trunk for upwards of 12-15 hours with a steady temperature of say 22-28 degrees F (just below freezing). Let's say leaving them inside of a car instead of a trunk is not an option, even though the temperature should be the same after a while anyways.

Leaving them at the place you played is not an option.. I am really asking if the temperature has an effect.

Now I realize this is not optimal care, but would damage occur? In specific to ceramic NJ Skulls.

I know if I left my pool cue in that same trunk, it would warp like a hockey stick, but obviously that is apples to oranges.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Question about the effects of cold on NJ Skulls

I don't have an answer, but you could just get a cheap but very cold weather rated sleeping bag and just wrap 'em up in that.

Re: Question about the effects of cold on NJ Skulls

Thanks for the reply, but the above example is really only a mock situation..

Let's say i have no choice but to leave these chips in 22-28F for 15 hours with no sleeping bag and no little heater.

Like I said there is a real reason for this, it's just I can't really explain it in detail, only that it is a controlled environment of 22-28 degrees F.

Can't help ya, then. Odd that you can't describe the situation in more detail. And odd that you can't prepare for it w/ a sleeping bag or something if it's a controlled and known environment. Unless it already happened and you're trying to anticipate results.

Re: Question about the effects of cold on NJ Skulls

I doubt a sleeping bag would do much to keep them warm. (Most chips are not warm blooded, after all. ) You might have better luck with an insulated cooler.

Why don't you do a test and report back to us? Stick some chips in your freezer overnight, and see what happens to them? Then you can write an article about it, and we'll publish it next to Ten's bakeoff article.
