How to care for Pharaoh's

I just got some samples of the Pharaoh chips, and never having had good chips, always had the plastic ones, how do I take care of these so that they last, in all their bright colors

Re: How to care for Pharaoh's

Never ever use them. Or some folks oil them, I haven't oiled mine becasue imo they don't need it. You can clean them with a mild cleaner and water, but I think the wearing gives them they're charm.

Re: How to care for Pharaoh's

do whatever you want with them. they'll eventually (after 20 hours of shuffling with like color, or 1/2 that with a mix of colors) start picking up grime. then you can scrub them gently with dishsoap and water and dry immediately, or let them be.

there isn't a whole lot of care involved, frankly.

I don't even have a good set of chips, but I hope to in the future. From everything I've read, pics I've seen, and chips that I've played with of some friends, I don't plan on wasting the time.

Re: How to care for Pharaoh's

I oiled all 1200 of mine.

It had a marginal positive effect on the chips and a considerable negative one on the respect that my wife has for me.

I wouldn't bother. save the time and do something more construcive. Like building a nice tower out of them.

Re: How to care for Pharaoh's

I oiled my martini clubs because they needed it, but my pharaohs don't IMO, these chips are already soft and the oil on the bluechips seemed to soften them a bit. ASM's could use a bit to bring the colors out.

Re: How to care for Pharaoh's

Insofar as maintaining their color, just don't leave them out in the sun.
As far as caring for them, the one caveat that I can think of is to not leave them in your car or any other place where it's going to be subjected to high levels of heat. Like plastic, and the main composition of these chips are also plastic (of a different kind), they can warp in high heat.
I have a set of Paulsons that are about 25 years old and they've never been oiled or even cleaned (other than with a wet towel to wipe off the occasional spill or grease stain from foods that you're likely to find around the table.)

Pocket speaks the truth on this one. I can speak from experience. I purchased some old casino Paulsons they were nasty. I mean the worst gunk and grime that you can imagine. Anyway I went to clean them used warm water with some Dawn dish soap. After them sitting in the warm water they seem to be easer to clean. So what do I do... Get the hair brain idea to boil some water and put the remaining 5 that I hadnt cleaned into the boiling hot soapy water. What a stupid thing to do. These chips look like crap. They are all warped and the mold you cant even reconize it. No more Hat & Cane for these babies.
What is the moral to this story dont leave your chips near or around anything HOT that includes boiling water. This was a learning lesson for me. I cost me about $12 and runined 10 great old Paulson's in the process. Not good at all. Sorry for the long post I just had to share this with you all.
