Stop me from doing something stupid

Ok, I read about a "pillowcase trick" where you can introduce some wear on your ASMs by putting like colored chips in a sack and shaking things up.

Color me dubious. Considering that these otherwise fine chips seem to have a lower than average shatter threshold, this may be a Very Unwise Thing To Do. On the other hand, a few games havent really made a dent in the aging process; shuffling is still sticky.

Anyone? Bueller?

Re: Stop me from doing something stupid

It's up to you as to whether or not you want to do this. But personally, I've never seen the merit to accelerating the wear on a perfectly good set of new chips or applying foreign substances (e.g. oil) to them. And if you do something to increase the wear factor, there's no going back, it's not as if you could undo the erosion that has occurred. If you want to try it though, the recommendation would be to do it with a small portion of the chips that can be easily replaced. If they're customs, you'd probably want to get some samples of that particular mold from ASM and try it with those first.

Re: Stop me from doing something stupid

I'd rather the wear on my chips be actual wear, rather than "poser" wear.

As PR said, too, there's no going back. Why bother doing something that might completely fail to meet your expectations?

Re: Stop me from doing something stupid

i did it with my first buncha samples. it didn't really do anything but mark 'em all up pretty nastafied.

clay chips break in pretty nicely with about 10 minutes of shuffling. that's what i recommend.

Re: Stop me from doing something stupid

I've mentioned this here before, but I would be a bit scared of any acceleration process. Look at the treads on any old stone staircase..they have that small indentation from natural wear. Or beach glass...or river rock. If you try to re-create these naturally worn surfaces, there is a far greater chance of screwing it up for the small chance of getting a result that will just happen beautifully over time. Enjoy the edges (while they last).
